W140 Subwoofer Installation

I was considering having a Focal subwoofer installed in my W140. Because the trunk is relatively soundproof, would a trunk mounted subwoofer be effective? What are the alternatives to a trunk mount? Would the vibration generated by the trunk mount tend to cause rattling?

Is there a good subwoofer that can be installed at the rear shelf or beneath the seat? How about the center armrest?

Thanks.

Hi BJL.

With enough money anything is possible.

One 15" or multiple 10"or12" subs in a purpose
built box(sealed or vented) with a big(800+watts)
amplifier or multiple amplifiers will over come
all of that.
Bass is mostly felt.

I'm not familiar with the newer models but
it think they still have the first aid kit built into
the rear deck.

They remove the first aid kit, this becomes a port for
the bass to pass into the cabin and they make a speaker
grill to match your interior in order to hide the port.

If not then you can all ways sacrifice your rear
speakers and have the hole(s) used as a port
instead of the hole where the first aid kit used
to be.

Any good stereoshop(read: not BEST BUY or the likes)
can design a suitable box that will take advantage of
this.

Good Bass costs $$$$.

Hope this helps.

Louis

Mark.

A high quality aftermarket subwoofer is always
better than a stock one, even if it is a bose.
If you ever get the chance to look at a
bose subwoofer and then take a look at
one from Kicker,focal,eathquacke,JL audio,ect..
you'll see an undeniable difference in built
quality.

Eventough new cars have better stereo's
than, say 5 years ago, they still don't messure
up to a high quality aftermarket stereo system.

A car manufacturer is in the business to make
cars and money,not stereo's.
The stock system has to please a wide range of
tastes and as everyone knows you can't please
everyone.

Not that they sound bad,it's just they sound flat
and neutral.

The aftermarket is in the business to make stereo's
and money,so they concentrate on stereo's only.

And an aftermarket stereo system can be custom
built to your taste.

Louis:

Thanks for the suggestions. I, too, was thinking of removing the rear shelf speakers to act as a port. Then, I'll put Focal speakers in the rear door for filler. Match it all with Focal glass in the front and a Butler tube amp, and I think I am all set.

Thanks again.
