Garage door remote
I ordered the garage door remote control (built into the rearview mirror) with my new CLK. I have two doors. Bottom line - one works and the other does not, though both are the same brand and operate at the same frequency (with different codes). Ideas?
So... here are the details: - I have two remotes, for an outer door into a collective garage, and an inner door into my own garage. Both are Normstahl remotes, operating at 40.685 MHz. This is within the range mentioned in the car owner's manual. - I have programmed both, following the instructions in the manual. One works, and not the other. - I have tried reprogramming the mirror button that does not work. As instructed, I hold down the button for about 20 seconds, until it blinks slowly. I then operate the remote control, holding it near the left end of the mirror, while continuing to hold the mirror button down. When the LED on the mirror blinks rapidly, I let go both buttons (mirror and remote). Meanwhile the garage door has been opened by the remote, meaning the remote is working. However, pushing the newly-programmed mirror button has no effect. The remote does not have any possible adjustment, as far as I can see. The code seems to have been programmed by drilling the circuit board to break certain circuits. Anyone with ideas or experience solving this? Momo

My ML has the same setup, and I have two doors that are operated with the same brand garage door opener (with the rolling code feature).
Your problem may be the opener and not the coding sequence on the remote. I know with some openers, they have a maximum allowable number of remotes they will recognize...after that, you need to reset the unit and start over (including your handheld units). Mine is something like seven for the limit. When I first coded, I did one easily and but spent about an hour with the other...again, same units. Find your owner's manual for the opener and look for specific instructions on coding. You have to sync up what you do for the MB remote with the "remote learn" sequence for the opener. Antenna proximity may have something to do with this as well. I can't open the second opener until I'm close to the door because of the sharp angle of the driveway...

See the Homelink page for details
Some rolling code devices require special training to operate with the HomeLink transmitter.

Mine wouldn' t work on either of my openers (same brand/model) until I followed the rolling code instructions. The info was in the users manual..

Yes, the web link solved the problem. Apparently the MB kit is OEM HomeLink, as the programming is identical. My Normstahl door has a "teach" button (Lernen in the photo below) that only stays on for about 5 seconds, so I had to be snappy.
So, in short, you have to program the button as indicated in the MB or HomeLink manual, then, if your door has a "Teach" button, push it, and quickly push the MB button twice. All done. Thanks again. I can now retire the second remote and have a nice tidy car. Momo
