What about using some vinegar in a sponge to dissolve the stains. I'm guessing the stains are mineral deposits, and vinegar ought to dissolve them. Using a sponge should help to keep the vinegar off of the rest of the car.

Try Bon Ami. You can find it in the grocery store. It's used to clean pots & pans.
You have to have something mildly abraisive to clean those water spots off. Most liquid cleaners like Windex aren't strong enough for that. ------------------ Bill Wood - Webmaster MercedesShop.com, LLC |

Hi, what I do is relatively simple. I spray window cleaning liquid and wipe the window properly using OLD newspapers. Once the window is nearly dry, I used another piece of newspaper (dry) to finish it off. Good for removing spots.

Chung:
Spot on (and no pun intended)! The old newspaper trick has been used for years by concours people, and, believe it or not, by housekeepers doing Spring Cleaning. This is the best way to clean any glass, for the fibers of the newspaper actually have some "tooth" which helps to "burnish" the glass. I have also heard some folks say that the ink on the newspapers helps to polish, but since that ink is black, I have never placed too much belief in that theory. All I know is what I observe (I guess I like empirical evidence) - when I clean with newspapers and some sort of solvent for the residues of rain (nowadays "soft water" but not without chemicals) and "hard" water from the tap, then I always get clean glass........Andras |

2 weeks ago I was in coastal Georgia near Savannah. This is the heart of paper mill country in the southeast US. It rained on my car and then the sun came out and baked everything dry. I got major waterspots on the windows. It was some really nasty acid rain. My paint cleaned up easily because I had a good coat of wax but, my windows were another story.
SEVERAL tries with Windex would do absolutely nothing to remove the waterspots but, a single application of Bon Ami did the trick. The Bon Ami treatment also helps to prevent steaking in the rain. ------------------ Bill Wood - Webmaster MercedesShop.com, LLC |
