Yes it is one of the jobs easy enough that I undid it and redid it just to take pictures for my site.

Old Navy,

I will try it again tomorrow. I have a tad of nylon left on the old mast. It has no teeth on it. No nylon comes out of the fender when I turn the radio on or off. I can get it to pull about 3 inches of the new nylon down, but no more. It makes grindy noises when it starts down. I tried it several times, but I was working alone. Maybe I need a friend to turn the radio on/off, while I try to feed in the nylon.
Thanks for the tips.....
George

I've managed to do it myself a few times but have to lean it on the trunk or let it dangle for those first couple seconds it is realing in. It sounds like you either don't have the teeth facing inwards or down in there far enough.

Oh and now it is probably officially hijacked.

So back to the question, how comfortable do you feel at a mercedes dealership?

George if your old mast nylon was smooth then you need nylon with no teeth. If your dealership doesn't know the difference, look here at Fastlane, and you can get the correct parts + save bucks.

I find the dealership parts guys and the techs to be down to earth people who are very approachable and knowledgeable. Its the few incompetant service advisors who I hate dealing with because of lack of communication skills and knowledge who almost always screw up something. The worst part is going in to the dealerships service counter and trying to explain your cars problem to the gucci model sittng at the desk so she can tell you to wait at the coffee bar while she try's to find the service advisor. Although I do enjoy watching her strolling around the waiting area

Old Navy,

That's exactly what I thought. I even tried to return the toothed one to the dealer, and the parts guy told me that is all they ever had.

Maybe they will take it back after I walk in there with the correct one!

In the smooth one there are two different lengths and I would guess it just has to do with length of the antenna. I think you can use either one, but that's just a guess on my part.

I love going to the dealer, talking about my car to the maintenance guy or the parts guy (has to be the older ones that have worked there for years; the young guys are there to make a $$$ and no nothing else about these cars), and discussing 123 cars and 617 diesels; because they treat me with more respect I feel, because not only do i know my car, but I know an old model that they probably worked on when they were only doing oil changes and car washes; and they see mine is still in top-notch shape.

I like slightly underdressing all the show-offs, and then going to the desk and talking loud technical info about the car, and how its the best mb made, and how the new xxx (whatever type of car the show-off is driving) and other similar cars have many more problems, etc.

The best you can do is make it seem like you knwo your stuff about your car, and still look like you've made it... and then turn up your nose at the show off and his unreliable, overpriced new car. HA!

Bullshi.... Don't even think about the fact that those people wear fancy clothes and drive $60K cars. Most of them are in debt up to their eyeballs and never will actually own their own M/B. They either lease the damn thing or the bank owns it and they make the payments on it. Their credit cards are in the same sad shape. They have $25K in debt and they make the minimum payment. They have to go to the stealer and get ripped off to fix their car (after the warranty expires) because they cannot even open the hood to check the damn dipstick!
My question is, `Is it necessary to project high debt loads and undesirable personal traits on the Suits that hang around the MB dealerships in order to rationalize our own worth?'

These people may in fact be good people with their lives in balance who happen to be able to afford and appreciate nice things.

And that doesn't need to affect my selfworth one whit.

The question I need to ask myself when I feel the need to project negative traits on anyone is `What is making me feel inadequate enough to make up stuff about people I don't even know?'

Hey, there's room for all types in this world.

As the original writer of the quote, I will answer the question two ways:

1) For people who have high self-esteem there is no reason or necessity to consider the negative aspects of owning this specific method of transportation. In fact, there would be no discusson regarding this post at all. In truth, there would be no thread at all.

2) However, the response was generated because of the thread starter. In this situation, the individual was feeling inadequate because he perceived that people at the M/B dealer had more money/assets/clothes/connections than he did. I just wanted to point out that things may not be what they appear. Of course, you are perfectly correct, these people may be good people, with no debt, who can easily afford a brand new M/B, new designer clothes, and they may even be able to fix their own M/B when it goes off warranty.

But, I doubt it
