If you are supposed to use DOT approved lights.... and you don't... you are taking UNnecessary chances.... that goes for anything which is mandated by law...
You suggested others install those type lights WITHOUT stating the warning that even the web site knew to post...
Otherwise I would not have needed to post anythnig about this.

"Why that's what you do when you say E-code headlights are dangerous, because you speak from igronance of the facts. "

Can you show me where I said that ?

Enough guys. Nobody's gonna get busted for non-Dot lights. If a lawyer brings it up in a court issue, all you need to be sure of is that you have a better lawyer. Law in this country is controlled by MONEY, the more you have, the more you will be able to get away with. Me, I'm gonna keep running my Euro lights because they really are better than the sickly suckers originally on my 123. I do think the lights on some of the new Jap cars, German too I'd guess are WAY too bright even at the dim setting. The euro lights seem to light the road without killing the other guy. I don't know what the wattage is on some of the new cars, but their lights could brighten up the moon.

It is the 400 percent figure for the LOW BEAMS which worries me the most...
Because most people can figure out how to put their beams on LOW... but if they are misadjusted and putting out that much more then it is not pleasant for people coming from the other direction...
I agree that many have too much light power these days... Often I flash my lights thinking they have forgotten to dim there and find they ARE ON LOW....
And it is worse on country roads at night.... down here they are pretty narrow...
It used to be illegal to place white lights below a certain height off the road... now I see NEW trucks with lights too low...and they shine in other's eyes STOCK from the factory....and they used to have to be wired to where they would turn OFF when your other lights were on Low... these new ones don't....

Leathermang you need to re-read your postings as you very much implied the are dangerous.

rmmagow is right enough is enough.

Yes those new HID lighs seem brighter then the halogen lights, but they are not. I have seen a bunch that were improperly aimed, and they don't really seem as bothersome to me as DOT's. The thing about white light is that it is "more" visiable to a lot of people and especially the older person. They can see the road better in front, the signs at the side of the road or the overhead signs.

What is funny is people putting in the blue coated bulbs that turn their light white to look like they have the HID's. The problem is the coating cuts down the amout of light projected and these guys will try to adjust for loss of light by aiming their lights higher. I seen a halfwit one night with his lighted area starting about 30 yards in front of him, and his actual light projected area was about haly the normal size. I would hate to have had to drive the car on curvy roads.

400% is sales hype somewhat. What that is actually refering to is the improvement in light projection, not brightness.

Yes we have the same problem here in the Ozark hills with nerrow 2 lane roads and curve speeds posted down as low as 15 mph. havlf the time back here they will drive in the dark without lights and when you flash at them they flash back and keep going without lights.

Lot's of those lights are dealer installed, but you are right even the mfg's no longer follow a lot of the DOT rules. Ford trucks for a long time had lights that would not meet DOT regs, do you remember those early '80's Ford's. The lights said DOT on them but they would fail an actual DOT test. I think we will be moving to something similar to E-code before much longer.

I would like to not have to purchase another car again but I know that won't happen. I enjoy messing with them too much.

Why`d I mentioned lights?.

The Benz`ll be running E-Codes (as the TDIs) when I find an extra $500.
