Heck, you got to have gumption. Put a crayon cardboard sign in back window with a Temp number. Seriously, You're best bet is AAA. They might be able to give you a cardboard temp tag.

I bought a car off ebay in baltimore, dealer gave me a temp florida tag to get me home to pa. drove on the temp tag for two months until it fell apart from the weather. No questions asked, never stopped.

My ins covered me for the time. Depends on what part of the state you live in for police hassles. rural areas, if they are bored, they pull you over. But not is old mercedes diesels...

If you ever need assistance while traveling in your Mercedes-Benz, just call 1-800-FOR-MERCEDES (1-800-367-6372) for our 24-Hour Roadside Assistance. Our Roadside Assistance Experts know Mercedes-Benz automobiles, and they're well prepared to handle unforeseen roadside complications. Our Roadside Assistance Program includes a free service called Sign and Drive, providing prompt relief for the three biggest headaches of the highways. We'll jump-start your run-down battery, bring you a few gallons of fuel to get you back on your way or change a flat tire using your spare, all free of charge.

Hey...

Found out that the seller will give him a temporary and an insurance card.

He should have landed in Atlanta about an hour ago so he should be driving back within the next hour.

I bought a vehicle in a small town in Maine with the intent of driving it a hundred or so miles home without tags. The police stopped by to check on me before I ever got out of the driveway with it. The PO left his tags on the vehicle and followed me out of town. Once past the town limit we stopped and he got his tags. I drove on without tags and without further incident.

According to the police I should have driven the 60 or so miles to Bangor to get a tag and then returned to pick-up the vehicle.

Some states will give you a temporary with no problems, others are really tight. Alabama and Wyoming both want to see the car and check the VIN before they give you anything on an out-of-state vehicle. Then Wyoming will give you a temp for up to 90? days. Alabama will give you a temp only for transit out of the state, and they don't seem to like to do that.

Maine did let us register a vehicle with an out of state address.

Talking Good advice. I'm loving it, since it was my car!

I did counsel against the license plate switch. I attached a "Billy Bob's" plate off the 300D I purchased two weeks ago. The title is completely in order. I left my insurance card in the car and don't plan to cancel the policy until Monday.
I drove the car every day (105 miles today to the airport), 70-75 when on the interstate. It runs about 90 degrees C at that speed with the AC on, getting 26-27 mpg. The tires are BRAND NEW, changed the oil last night (Delo), headlights are brand new Sylvania Silverstars, air and fuel filters are good. Flushed and filled the cooling system with MB coolant at the beginning of the summer.

I spent almost 30 min. with him going over systems, offering advice and all the "how-to's." He was planning to drive around the area a little before hitting the slab for points north.

This young man could be my son. I would never have sent him off on an 875 mile diesel solo in a "baling wire special" not to mention without the proper instruction. I would hope any forum member who sells another member a car would do no less.

Thumbs up Thanks!

Very cool buyer too !

Any 21 year old car can have a problem but if I were a bettin' man I wouldn't put any money against this car.

Rick did ya'll "do the deal" in the parking lot at the airport? I have found that it is best to set up in the parking lot at the airport instead of trying to do it at the drop off area. The first time I sold a car there we met at the "drop off" area. The police thought we were nuts for thinking we would have time to "sign off" on a car purchase deal in the area where all you are supposed to do is "drop off" a departing passenger.

Yep. Nice shady parking garage

Cindy followed me in the Avalon. When we parked we found two spots away from the "packed-in-people-in-a-hurry-area." Since we didn't have baggage and knew Pete wouldn't a little less traffic made it easier to go over things.

Last time I took my sister to the airport a guy came up on a Segue and ran me out of the drop off almost before I got her bags out of the trunk!

Whenever I have delivered one at the Atl airport I have just taken Groome or VIP transportation from the airportto Warner Robins or home. VIP will drop you off at your house but you have to pre-arrange the pickup at the airport. Groome will get you as far as Warner Robins. If I remember correctly VIP was $35 one way last time I used it.
