Rather than putting WD-40 on a bolt for REASSEMBLY, use anti-sieze. It's the same stuff that keeps spark plugs from siezing in aluminum heads. I'm not 100% sure, but I think anti-sieze would hold up to the heat well enough. Worth a try though.

Thanks
David

anti seize and other things.

Turbo casings get pretty hot. There is even a high temp anti seize compound out there. Strange the older my car thats being worked on the more consideration I seem to give to the little details. Either that or I just like spending money. It's hard to really tell. Today was travel to the areas largest tool supplier in nearby town and try to restrict purchases to only what I think I need versus gotta have. Did pretty well as spent only just about twice what I planned to. Sometimes it's far worst. Fear someday I may have to enter a tool addiction withdrawl centre somewhere. To think this disorder probably started with a 1/2 inch wrench or perhaps a pair of pliers or even just a screwdriver. Anyways congratulations are in order. You will probably never forget this particular experience even when you become an old guy like myself. Know it will also increase your self esteem a little to boot. In otherwords a long suffering but ultimatly rewarding experience to pass through. Basically it will be all the people you interacted with that will never be forgotten. I was lucky enough to have a simular experience when i was sixteen.

Cool tool pychosis-treatment

Tragically I can visulise it already. Sticker shock treatments, rubber wrenches, hydrocarbon withdrawl, unskinned knuckles, money in my pocket, Just terrifying to contemplate. How can I even request a day pass to race my 240d after I am admitted? If I ask them, I'll never get out.

tools anonymous?

I hear you Pete, I have been in denial for fifty years myself . Tried cold turkey but just fell off the tool cart again and again. Find myself frequenting the places that have late evening hours so I can sneak in to buy tools after dark. May just want an 18mm 1/2 drive socket. But find myself buying others even though said to myself I would not. Wake up next morning promising myself not to do it again. I fully realise it is not curable. Justification becomes the norm. Wrenching is far cheaper than wenching for example. All of us find a way. Sady will probably be a few days getting his turbo so am just trying to bump this thread up a little for the continuation and add a little levity. In my case have always felt that the first time you use a tool it is paid for by doing the job yourself versus farming it out. After that the tool is free for as long as you posess it and can find it. Of course for some items this no longer applies at all unfortunatly. Suggested to young guys that they keep an eye on yard sales to provide fundemental tools to get started for years . Noticed that good tools no longer appear there. Perhaps it's the continuing cost spiral. Who knows?

Ask away,

This forum is to help people, and so is this thread,

What I always think to myself is, Whats the worst that could happen?

I dont mine people hijacking my thread, to a point, as long as we are still talking about cars, and Im not trying to solve anything at the moment (now) then im all for you guys talking about whatever needs talked about.

So, whatever your questions are, post them here.. feel free.

Make sure to do it at someone elses house or at school. It will be quite expensive to print all these pages (relativly speaking).
