Typo on last post--missed the "2" so it should read 123 and not 13.

Sorry-sticky keys....

cheers,

Bill

That's still not too bad. Granted, a few of the buses I drive every day would eat it for lunch (nothing like having a snarling 325 horse Caterpillar 40 feet behind you), but it's not that bad. Then again, my Saturn VUE peels off very low 8 second passes 0-60... so it will be a dramatic change.

We were in a rural area, no speed traps. The guy in the W124 was well aware of the challenge. I saw the car again last night. I noticed it had the lone emblem on the right side that said "TURBO" on it. Does this info help narrow down the model? I don't know much about the W124's.
I've done a lot of tweaks on the car in the last 3 months including adjusting the ALDA to optimal performance (the MPG's have suffered a bit for this though). I've also boosted turbo pressure by adding a manual adjustment to the waste gate valve hose. I've also rerouted some of the crankcase breathing directly back into the intake system. Before I swapped out the intake mainfold, I had the inside of the "new" intake manifold extruded (I guess that's the term for it) by a local performance shop. Basically this process smooths out the roughness of the inside of the manifold caused by the casting process. The inside of the intake manifold is about as rough as dried out piece of toast and after the extrusion process the inside was about as smooth as glass. I wish I had taken photos of it. I'm also planning on looking into a larger diameter exhaust system with less restriction to squeeze out even more power in the near future. Intercooling may be another idea as well.
I had parked 300D recently because of the cost of diesel but now the 230CE is parked and waiting for new CV axles. It's going to take 10 days for new ones from Autozone.

If it only says "Turbo", then it is a six cylinder 3.0 liter. If it said, very distinguisably, 2.5turbo, then it was a 2.5 cylinder 5(121 bhp and 165 lb/ft).

The '87 300D does 0-60 in the 10 to 11 second range. Some claims have been less than 10 seconds without the trap oxidizer. Top speed is 130'ish.

DID YOU REALLY BEAT AN OM603? OMG!

'TURBO' on the right makes it an 87 300D. 2.5s have a '2.5TURBO' badge, E300s have a 'DIESEL' badge.

Those mods won't make up a 30hp deficit.

Maybe he needs filters, a tank-strainer, or whatnot.

Or maybe he was pacing.

OR MAYBE, lietuviai beat him fair and square....maybe.

My trap is history in my car. Gone with the rest of the CA crap it had. No EGR either. I adjusted my ALDA to give the car the best response upon acceleration. There aren't too many turns left on the adjustment screw. I also put a brass valve from a water line on the waste gate so I can adjust the amount of boost my turbo gives. No gauge yet though. I'm sure I'm asking for trouble w/o knowing how much boost I'm actually getting now, but I can really hear the turbo spool, sounds like a loud whistle. It starts to spool audibly at just under 2000 RPMs. I haven't tried to use a stop watch to time my 0-60's but when doing a 1-1000, 2-1000 count I'm at 60 MPH before I count to 10-1000 on a to the floor acceleration with the tranny selector on S.
If I blow the motor, I will admit to it.

There are times in life when you come across a machine that is more than the sum of it's parts. I've had two, maybe lietuviai has one.

Richard Bach had a book with a short story or two that touched on this.

Get a stop watch and time a 0-60 run. Make sure to run it on the same street in both directions and average the two runs.
