Questions on a W210 OM 606 glow plug reamer
I'm getting ready to replace the glow plugs and having read ALL the posts concerning it, have a couple of questions:
1) Does the reamer ream where the body of the glow plug sits or where the heating element portion sits? 2)Any pictures of ones someone has actually used? Thanks!

The reamer screws in just like a glow plug. It reams the hole for the element.
Here is one version for pencil type glow plugs: http://www.zdmak.com/wbstore/main.asp?action=PROD&PROD=MK-M901-0053&CTMP=1 Here is another version: http://www.************************/ProductPage.aspx?productname=Glow+Plug+Reamer&productid=102966&productType=20&partnumber= Last edited by tangofox007; 02-04-2005 at 09:31 PM. |

Only problem I see is that if it's supposed to ream the hole for the element, then the ones in the links you provided are way, way too short for an OM606 motor. This appears to be a difficult tool to find

I bought a reamer for the 606 engine from Baum Tools. Cost about $54and it is much longer than the ones pictured. It's not in their catalog yet since it's only been out about six months.

I guess they're milling these things from pure billets of Unobtanium? I've got an email off to Baum Tools to see if they can help me. Thanks!

I just purchased a glow plug reamer tool for my 606 engine, from Baum. $41.17. They have plenty in stock. This tool is not listed on the web site, so you will need to phone the order in. The part number is: B606-0053

I used an old glow plug with slots ground length ways, seem to remember another forum member posting the original idea - works well with some WD40
Also ground off the threads to avoid damage/allow rotation unrestricted. Here we go, for some reason my pictures have been removed from actual thread but still appear on Google images.

Why WD40? FSM calls for heavy grease on the reamer blades, to capture the loose bits of carbon. You don't want all the carbon bits falling down into the prechamber. I don't think WD40 would be very effective at this.

Point taken, bit this is more of a dust with continued rotation, couple of RPM's should be gone. You just need something to beak deposits down and help twist the tool (or keep is twisting)
