Start with WDB
Then the full chassis code of the car - 126120 for your SD Next is the stering: 1 = LHD, 2 = RHD Then transmission: stick = 0, hydrak = 1, auto = 2 Finally, the last six digits of the VIN So a 126 SD would be WDB12612012xxxxxx I think they changed the euro numbering system in 1983, and I'm not sure if this works for post '83 cars. The August 1983-1985 VIN decoding is as follows
ex: WDB1261204A555555 Start with WDB 126120 is the 300SD 4 is the steering type, (1 LHD, 2 RHD) A is manufacturing plant (A-E is Sindelfingen. F-H is Bremen) 555555 is the build number. -Joe
