I am a long way away from you but...

I had my rear winshield installed on my w126 and it took the guys (2) all of 45 minutes and it cost me $100 in labor. They would not even talk to me about replacing it UNLESS I used an OE gasket, which cost me another $100. All in all I ended up with a $200 bill but it sure stopped the leaks!

Hey rwthomas,

You must have trained the guys I used. That's exactly how they did it!

Kevin

Well, I was half joking, and half not. He was looking for solutions, and I posed one, the ethics of the matter are up to each individual.

I understand why fraud is not good for everyone in general, but I'm afraid that regardless of what happened I would be unable to lose sleep over what I did to an insurance company. I doubt they lost any sleep over what they've done to me.

If all insurance fraud stopped today, insurance prices wouldn't drop at all, they'd stay the same, and profits would go up. But if too much fraud happens, then the rates will indeed rise.

With insurance companies there is no ethics, just cause and effect, so everyone can make their own choice.

peace,
sam

I just did my rear window seal. Really not that bad of a job. More time consuming than difficult.

I pay $2,400 a year to my stupid insurance company, every 4 years I want a new windsheild. It is so simple to do in this state, just call them up and say it is pitted real bad and hard to see out of.

Jason,

Your profile says you have an 83 300D, which is a 123 chassis. Have you added to your collection? 123's have standard style gaskets. Call up one of the really great body shops in town (like the BMW, MB or Lexus body shops) and ask who they use to replace their glass. Then go call those guys. Buy a factory gasket!!! Don't use aftermarket. You'll need to furnish your own gasket to the installer. 20yo car needs new gaskets. Especially in the desert.

Would be a good idea to put what you drive in your signature file....up on USER CP....so we can guess at a glance what car you are refering to.

oops.. Yah, I added a nice, rust free, 74 240d. The only thing thats giving me trouble are these gaskets. I had to replace all the door seals, but still have really small leaks in the corners of the windshields. So I should spend the $90 at fastlane rather than the $68 at http://www.worlduph.com/mbzrubberseals.html ?

NO, as posted before you need to buy the factory ones. The aftermarket ones do not seal as well. The folks on this board have been there, done that.

If you install the aftermarket ones, you may still have some leaks and the installer is going to tell you..........too bad. The aftermarket ones "may" work but you are taking some chances.

If you install the factory seals, the installer doesn't have any options other than making it seal without excuses.

I bought one aftermarket seal for my trunk. It is a pos and it cost me $35. I just bought the OE seal the other day it costs $58. So in an effort to save $28 I now have to do the job twice and it will cost me $92 insted of just $58. I learned my lesson I will only buy OE seals, they don't even cost much more. I think the rear window seal cost about $20 more from the dealer.

A reminder to new members

Being cheap can get very expensive with the wrong parts.

Have a great day.

Kid friendly; pro approved

So I believe my rear window seal is leaking and I found a shop that'll replace it. I want a seal that the pros will have no problem with. Is the rear window listed in the parts dept. in this site a worthy seal for my '83 w123?
