Does anyone know roughly how many 12oz cans of R12 are needed to properly fill a 123 A/C system? I actually have the cert to allow me to buy it so that won't be a problem. All I need to do is have the system leak checked, probably put in a new compressor, dryer and gaskets. The system will be flushed too. My bigger problem is finding someone I trust to do the leak testing. Both cars will blow cold for a while after putting in refrigerant but thay only hold for a week or so. The variuos pressure switches, fans etc seem to work OK.

Thanks Bill, nice to have options...
Jimmy,

You just need to remove the R-134A. The envirosafe will work with the PAG oil but you can change it to the ester based oil so you don't have the moisture corrosion issues. For a ton of info on envirosafe and other replacements do a search on this list: http://www.aircondition.com/wwwboard/ There are A/C professionals on that list who give excellent info on the current state of the art in A/C charging options not uninformed opinions from the R12 is best crowd....

I've looked and some people don't need the EPA cert which would save me some time. I have two buddies that have the EPA cert to attain R12 so I wonder if I should get new R12 or some recovered used stuff.

After some mad searching I've found some hellacious deals on A/C parts (high pressure and suction line for $80!) I need so I'll come down to me gettin0g bent on flushing, evac'ing, and recharing the system only now.

My SDL fights tons of I-95 traffic. I keep the shifter in 2nd if it is moving very slow so the engine can do the braking. Thats about it just don't be in a rush because that will only raise your stress levels.

I had no problem last summer on 100 degree days sitting in traffic with the AC blasting. The AC works just OK in these cars but it is good enough.
