I took a 2004 Audi A3 2.0TDI sportsback up to 232kmh(140+mph) on the autobahn going slightly downhill. The new diesels are amazing.

Ludicris speed

I had a 1999 E300td up to 155 indicated on the speedo after installing a Brabus IFI engine computer. However, the 2000 E55 with a Kleemann Kompressor and headers that I built still holds my 210 chassis record of 181mph on GPS. Before I got scared and jumped off the loud pedal,
It should have hit around 190ish. I guess I lost my nerve
Needless to say, the E300td got 3 times better mileage at terminal velocity.
The New CDI's blow past 100mph effortlessly. Sadly, there is a governor at 130.
My old 200d used to hit 68mph after about 5 minutes of ramp-up time!
Good thing it had fins on it to hold her down on the ground!

1984 300D 348,000 miles 105 mph
1993 300D 2.5 L 206, 000 115 mph

Wanting to go faster yet staring at the tach with a diesel is like a brake in my mind saying "What are you doing twisting a diesel over 4500 rpm's, are you crazy slow down"

Had the ol '82 300D up to 90-95 routinely.

I on a few occasions get the ol car upto 90-95 on the way into or home from work. But I have been reluctant to push it beyond till I have the axels replaced of which I am into currently.

The car has almost 240 thousand miles on it and still runs decent.

Driving in So Cal means you can't drive too much under 80 and at 90 you're not going much faster than the flow of traffic(unless of course it's "rush" hour). Occasionally when I've got a wide open stretch late at night I'll take the 96 E300 up to the 110 mark. This is from a guy who after rebuilding and balancing a 350 4 bolt main in a '70 Chevy 4x4 Carryall had it up to a 105 down a country road. Oh the things we did when it was mostly testosterone.

That's a classic. I will add it to my "collection".

Looking forward to yours, '82.

VIDEO of my 300TD, top speed I could reach on the road I had. I don't have a working speedo so I'm only guessing at speed (Even if it did work I could only see 85mph, thanks USGOV.)

Alright. Don't you have 15" wheels? If you do, I am assuming 205/65/15 rubber(I saw a picture of your car on the dyno).

I am assuming 2% slip since that is what the later 722.3 transmissions get anyway(and I don't know much about earlier versions).

Top speed would be approximately 112 mph @ 4600 rpm.

If you had 14" wheels with 195/65/14 tires, then top speed would be 106 mph. This is assuming the tachometer is 100% accurate. They usually are, however.

115mph on my '83 300D Turbo along I-15

Speedo was off (optimistic) by 10mph so it was registering 125mph

Everything stock, 150k miles then

Absolutely beautiful, that speedometer is.

DslBnz,

Now that is what one should expect to see in a Mercedes Benz Diesel. Having to watch how many times one accelerate within a given time frame, or worry about what anti-freeze you put in, or have to wait for the car to cool off before you can turn the ignition off, or hold your breath and hope your head didn't crack because the outside temps changed because you went through a rain shower and things like that is not a Mercedes Benz product, except in NAME ONLY. And definitely NOT made in Germany, at least. My 300SDL must have been fabricated in China. Congrats on having one of the few cars that one can drive like a quality car.
