Actually, to have an SDL with that kind of setup underneath, would be all I would need in life. I prefer the strengthened autobox, for now. I'm not talented enough to handle that kind of power under both feet at once. Not too long ago, gentlemen on this forum were speaking as if 5 more hp in an OM617 would make scrap out the engine. You guys mean quite a lot to this forum. Thank you. ![]()

t walgamuth-
Yeah i'll agree ride and handling are nice, but parts are hard to find here and fit and finish isnt impressive. However, my dad had a Pug 505STI and despite the challenge of finding parts, I find them quite enjoyable. A car like a Peugeot can be an enjoyable car to own as long as you love it and are willing to deal with the challenge of owning such a car. As for me, the 604 was the most beautiful and handsome pug ever made, and with a proper 617.952 transplant, could possibly prove to be quite a reliable and easy to maintain ride compared to its stock counterpart..... mercedes diesel dependability with the quirky euro personality of a vintage pug chassis and shell. Sounds good to me!

I like the Peugeot idea although I don't think their diesel engines were all that bad either. I really like the 504 as well and almost bought a cherry one before I got into MBZ.
My dream conversion is relatively easy- a pre-92 VW Cabriolet fitted with a VW 1.6 IDI engine. I have an extra engine laying around in pieces- all I need is the rust free- body. That seems to be the hard part. This is a very easy bolt in deal as the car was made for that engine in gas form.

pugs
i have just this somewhat fuzzy memory of lifting the lid of what appeared to be a fuse box under the hood and seeing a rats nest looking thing of wires and random splices... that is when i put it up for sale... it sold fast, surprisingly, but it was hot and sultry then and the ac worked fine.

"Would very much like a 603 turbo in a 70s or 80s Rolls Royce Silver Spur or Corniche, or really any Rolls. Preferably a white one. Is that doable?"
Some years back it was quite the thing in England to buy a defunct Rolls Silver Shadow sedan from the 70's, and replace the blown engine with a 6.2L GM diesel, and use it to tow your horse trailer or sailboat. You could buy the car cheap because a new engine cost $20,000 and the GM cost only $5000 brand new. The engine was nearly a drop in, as Rolls already uses a Turbo 400 Hydramatic transmission. That may not be your idea of a "cheap tow vehicle" but apparently, in certain upper crust circles in England, it was. |

I would like to put a VW TDI motor/tranny into a Fiat X 1/9. I figure that would be an awesome combination of performance/handling/economy.
I'd also like to have a Rabbit pickup with a modern TDI motor. Some guy in England has already done this and it's sweet.
