Tank Strainer Wrench
In my 1983 300CD:
Can I really remove the strainer with a 36mm socket? It looked bigger than that? Mark

I've not been able to find that in 1/2". I think it's a special order from M/B. |

bicycle pump trick
store your bicycle pump in your car, so if you get strainer clog, you can blow it out with it. Mine fits right on the pre filter. When you hear bubbles in the tank you know you have succeeded. Bleed the air with your thumb pump and you should be fine for a while, until you can get it cleaned.
But still, what size wrench is it to remove the strainer? anybody? Mark

Mark,
I used either a 17mm or a 19 mm OE wrench to remove the strainer. One of these 2 is the size of the fitting on the fuel hose. If the hose is screwed into the strainer tight and the strainer is not too tight in the tank, turning the fuel hose fitting will remove the strainer. Worked for me, might work for you. P E H |

The SDL lost all boost for most of the tank recently, again, after I let it get down to the last three gallons before the fillup. |

i have
used the fungicide several times to clear my tanks and never have removed the strainer. the fungicide liquifies the stuff and it goes on througn. removing the strainer requires draining the tank. this is a nasty job that i personally dont want to do unless absolutely necessary.
