1985 300SD- Rear Shock Replacement

I can't seem to find the upper mounting points for the rear shock absorbers. The lower bolts are no problem, but the upper mounting point appears to be buried somewhere between the trunk and the back seat. I've looked around the trunk and behind the panel that hides the fuel tank. Are the upper mounting points where the shock rods attach under the rear seat? Any insight would be welcomed.
