The BMW that just couldn't pass me...

Poor riced 328 couldn't pass my SDL! It was a mid 90's model with a crappy body kit that didn't match. It probably really was a 318.

I was cruising on the highway in the left lane at about 70 keeping pace with traffic. This stupid BMW was riding me badly and I really didn't want to move over. So as traffic cleared he tried to pass me in the right and I gunned it. At about 90ish I was pulling on him, and he backed off.

I thought those things were pretty fast? I guess my SDL is faster...

Not quite living up to the reputation of "the ultimate driving machine"....

or he'd just seen too many movies where the homicidal bad guys drive older benzes; beverly hills cop series, mulhalland drive (how do you spell that?), the transporter (a clearly pro-bmw, anti-benz movie...the hero drives a bmw 7 series and the bad guys drive mercedes), just to name a few off the top of my head.

Mulholland But in the defense of David Lynch I don't think he is a anti-Mb person...he uses one bad a$$ 6.9 in Lost Highway

A 120hp 318i isn't the ultimate driving machine. But a V-10 M5 is much better

ROFLMAO. I don't think it was a 328. If it was, you gotta lay off the propane, and ease the full load adjustment screw back 4 full turns.

The 126 has always been the bad guy car, from Miami Vice to Black Rain. I love the line in Suicide Kings when the young kidnappers get away from the mobsters: "Those Krauts sure can build 'em!"

If it means people stay out of my way when I'm driving my dark blue 300SD, so be it.

I have had 2 325s and 1 318 BMW

I would agree that it was a 318 because 90mph is about is good as you can get with those turtles.

The 325s could get to 115 and would eat my 300D at any speed.

Nothing personal (I actually mean that) but I hate when people intentionally block lanes. Regardless of what vehicle they're driving...It just makes hazardous conditions more hazardous...

I can't tell for sure but from the sounds of it you had clear road ahead and slowed back to "keeping pace with traffic" once you effectively blocked the "Bob Marley and the Whalers" from passing on the right.

Furhter, I'm thinking that car did pass you. Either that or you should spend more time scanning the road ahead instead of looking in the rearview...... I'm not familiar with BMW's but do they have badging on the front?

If someone is riding me badly, I try to get the heck out of their way, either by losing them behind me or letting them "through" My experience is that those cars make great magnets for speed traps and the like....Obviously I've read alot into the situation that you very briefly discribe but being a safety geek couldn't pass on the opportunity to spew a little safety....

It just sounds like the difference between age and wisdom and youth and exuberance.
Lets not get into a left lane debate, but suffice it to say it doesn't sound like it was being used properly.....

No I wasn't blocking traffic for about 10 miles I was 3 or so car lengths from the guy in front of me and their were a bunch of cars in front of him. This guy was in a rush, even if I moved he wasn't going anywhere. I was just flowing with traffic. I hate left lane bandits because I am usually the one moving in the left. Right before my exit it started to open up a bit and the BMW decided to go for it.

The BMW did pass me eventualy because I was slowing down to get off at my exit.

I love to talk about blocking lanes.

Let say I'm doing 69 mph in the left. Traffic is also moving at about the same speed in the left. However, I have about 8 car lengths in front of me. I like this spacing. Sometimes I get up to 10 lengths.

Does this give some douchebag the right to ride my bumper and force me into the middle lane that is going no faster than 65 mph? Why should I move over to the middle lane and slow down just so this moron can gain the 8 car lengths?

Sorry, not going to happen. If the douchebag decides to pass me using the center lane, I might tighten up the gap to three lengths or so. Sometimes, by doing this, he hits traffic in the center lane and screws himself. This is immensely satisfying.

If these jerkoffs would simply drive the speed of the lane, they would get there in the same amount of time without causing anybody to hit their brakes.

Inevitably, they pass in the center lane by increasing their speed to 85 mph and then force themselves back into the left lane. One car length spacing is good enough for them.

Well, I've had enough of it. I'm not moving to the center lane, provided that the speed of the left lane matches my speed, regardless of the following distance.
