How Does my Turbo Work?

Got into a big discussion this weekend about how the turbo on my 300SD works. I know it accelerates air into the cylinders. What drives the mechanism and is it limited in some way. I know , I should know this but my brain cells are struggling

What drives the mechanism? In all turbo chargers it is the exhaust that drives it. And it doesnt accelerate the air, it compresses it so more fits in the cylinder. If you need more help you can refer here as I learned it from this site awhile back, great site:

I hope I helped answer your question.

Turbochargers use the exhaust gas to drive them.... Superchargers do the same thing but are driven mechanically off the crankshaft.

Yes it will....

unfortunately the principle of indirection applies to that question ....

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=principle+of+indirection&btnG=Google+Search

so you can't ask it directly....

Never buy a new car... let someone else suffer that initial depreciation.
