New motor mounts = AWESOME!!!!

Upon cranking the 190D over tonite after installing the motor mounts, I honestly thought the engine stalled, but I did hear a faint running sound in the background, and a glance at the tach confirmed the engine was running! The diesel is now smooth as a gasser at idle!!!! I cannot believe the difference new motor mounts made.

And no more violent "clunk" when shutting the engine down!

At first I thought I had the wrong replacement mounts, since the new ones were about 3/4" taller than the old ones, but the part numbers were the same; looks like the old ones were flattened. It was very hard to determine the mounts were bad via a pry bar, as the engine appears to move just as much as it did with the old ones, but "floats" on the new mounts.

Big thanks to DieselBone for suggesting new mounts!

It’s like driving an entirely different vehicle now.
-John

engine mounts on my current car i didnt think they were needed quite yet. when i rebuilt the front end i was freakin out because when i turned left it made a thud. well i went home and started lookin around under the hood and found the engine to be about 2in lower and almost cutting the oil cooler line. new mounts made it much better

yup did them myself. they are really easy, they key to doing them is to have a high quality set of allen wrenches(craftsman and up) and to clean the heads out really well before trying to remove the allen bolts.

Installed them myself... took me <30 minutes.

Tools used:
-8mm hex for bottom bolt.
-17mm open end for top bolt.
-floor jack + couple boards to protect oil pan and distribute weight.
-little bit of anti-sieze for the bolts.

As a picture person,
do you have any pictures of where the mounts will go? I picture tells a million words. Thanks. I might do that for my 300sd, it seems to be pretty loud.

hmm i was under the impression that i would have to bring something like motor mounts to a dealer, because the engine would have to be disconected and lifted up for the motor mounts to be replaced.

i have a cali 1985 300D, and want to know if it is really just a 30 min job.

do i have to:
1.jack up the engine from below?
2. have enough clearance to remove and reinstall new mounts?

i was quoted $450 for engine mount replacement at a local indy and 600 at my stealership. i would rather do it myself if it is really not that hard.
