I didn't know a haynes manual existed for the 124's. I had one back when I first started out on my 123 and it helped a LOT. I would reccommend that one.

Haynes makes good manuals a bit generalized but thats fine for most DIY jobs.
I would be concerned that manuals written for the UK might not cover the differences in something like steering box and clutch on the right side to adjust . ." and things like emissions controls will be different O/W there's a lot that should be common the the cars regardless of which side of the pond they were made for. If you were tearing into the engine the FSM would be recommended.

I have the Haynes UK W124 manual - it's not bad but I don't think I'd want to attempt any complicated repairs without the correct factory shop manual.
Think of it more as a supplement to the shop manuals. |

Thanks for quick replies!
Does anyone know of a good source to buy the factory manual CD's?

According to the website:
http://www.haynes.com/na101.html#anchor565269 Haynes does not list a US manual for a W124 diesel. |

Its not a US manual, its for UK models. But what Ive heard is there aint much difference between the UK version and US version, aside from steering wheel being on wrong side. Anyway, here is some info on here i found
pretty much everything is the same, except the steering wheel and battery are on the 'wrong' side! When I was using my UK Haynes for my US car, I didn't have any problems with differences, although some US/UK terminology is different. As you say the emissions stuff may be different but for 90% or more it's all the same. For Destroy It Yourself work and not pro mechanics (who use the CDs) it covers most stuff clearly. I've had the UK edition of the 124 Haynes manual for quite some time and it has served me well. I think it is still the only Haynes available for the 124. It is worth the money IMHO. I find there's no negative implication of it a) being British, or b) purporting to cover only up through 1993. You eventually learn how to translate bonnets, spanners, estates, etc., and the 93 HFM DOHC 3.2 104 is identical to the 94/95. The book is available at 303-237-0911 for $38 including freight. Donno if thats true or not... Where to get FSM ??

I just got the UK W124 Haynes manual from a seller on Amazon marketplace. It seems like a good additional resource. They have a pretty good overview of most items. I would recommend it. I paid $31 with shipping. There doesn't seem to be too much different about the UK cars. The manual covers the gasoline engines more than the diesel.

It's probably a bit "basic" for some of your more major jobs, but real nice for oil changes, simple troubleshooting, basic maintenance. Real simple, real quick for looking things up. It's also fairly inexpensive, $30 if I remember right. I bought one at Barnes and Noble. Anyone have experience with either?? I need a good manual for big and little stuff, New to diesels, and I don't even know how to change oil or filter(s) on it. Also trying to install veggie conversion soon.
