Engine And Tranny Are Back In The Car
![]() Set everything back into the car this evening . Bolted the a/c compressor on and the engine/tranny mount fasteners and knocked off for the evening. Hopefully, I will get it going this weekend. Nothing like a fresh engine/tranny in a 300D with an interior that looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor . Hopefully, my next project will be on my own car - rebuilding the engine in my '83 240D. On cold start I'll swear I hear what I am afraid is referred to as the "rattle of death". I would not take anything for my 240D .I need to replace the IP gasket on the 300SD because it is leaking a little. I have had an offer on it that I am probably not going to be able to refuse but only after I have fixed the old leak. I am not totally convinced I need to sell it though but I could see myself owning a 1995 E300 .

It runs and seems to run out good
. No issues in regards to unusual noises or running hot. The oil return line from the turbo is leaking so I'll go back in and resolve that over the next couple days. It actually looks like I may have driven the lower pipe too far into the upper oil pan. My intentions are to remove the lower oil pan and try to drive it back up towards the turbo. I hate I did not pick up on this while the engine was on the engine stand .

I saw an 85 300D go for 10,000 on ebay a few months back. It was in "immaculate" condition seller said. I was amazed. Upon really thinking about it, a new rebuilt motor and tranny and everything else newly replaced or repaired, where are you going to find a better car for that price? Still seems high.

I sold an '85 300D with 87k miles on it for a little over $10k and the buyer was pleased as punch. This particular car is showing 307k miles (odo works) and drives out straight. Seeing as how the tranny was rebuilt there is no reason this one won't go another 300k miles
.Job took a little over 2 months to complete which seems to be pretty typical for me. Next on the agenda is my 240D. I should have the engine out this weekend. I am considering pulling the engine separate from the tranny because the engine/tranny fasteners are easy as all get out to get to . It seems to have low compression and goes through oil like there is no tomorrow.

It runs like a brand new engine is supposed to run.
Took awhile to set everything up. Got the turbo up to 10.5 psi then sorted out the controller for the transmission vacum signal "curve". Turned the vacuum modulator in two turns to get the shift right. I was reluctant to keep the hammer down to ck the shifts in regards to the shift marks on the speedo because of it being a brand new engine. Got it set close.
