I would think when traveling at high speed, the last thing you would need is music playing to distract you.

I would assume he meant the police scanner.

OTH Beethoven espcialy the 5th is very nice high speed music for MB's. Fits in perfectly as the world rushes by, and you are enclosed in quite luxury.

Actually I don't have a police scanner. Just a CB and a radar detector. The CB, in my opinion, is the #1 safety feature of any vehicle period. Truck drivers are very, very helpful and kind to point out road hazards, cops, wrecks... driving cross country this summer having the CB defenitely saved my life once, and probably got me out of a ticket at least a few times (although I wasnt driving 100... I was towing a 1500LB trailer). It also serves as a psychological mechanism for 'keeping your head in the game' while driving because you are constantly on the lookout for hazards, you often know what is ahead, you always know what mile marker you are at, etc etc... good way to stay awake late at night.

Ticket Slayer!

Try these folks out: www.ticketslayer.com

due to a loophole in the common law and US Constitution, no traffic citation holds any wait in any court of law.... Their (TicketSlayer's) documentation lays it out in simple legal terms that basically strong arm the judge into throwing out your ticket.....

buy it once and use it for life!

Must say, haven't tried em myself, but I have an aquaintance who said it works.....

The only time I do 90+ is state-to-state open highway. I try to keep it under 85 the rest of the time.

Very cool Austin Martin, must be hard keeping her under 100.

How does it feel going for a 600hp GT car to a 120 diesel MB??

Mathematically, riding on 205/75-14 tires with a speedo calibrated for 195/70-15 tires means your speedo is reading about 5.5% slow. 95 mph indicated is more like 100 mph actual. 107 mph actual is more like 101 mph indicated.

My '85 CA wagon reads about 3-4 mph over actual speed. I've confirmed this with frequent trips through those radar signs that post your speed as you drive by. By the way, I once got the old girl to do 100 on a flat interstate in the dessert with a bit more to go so with a slight downhill grade 100+ is definitely doable. I just bumped 100 then backed off as I wanted to see if it would do it. Made me pretty nervous, more about the Highway Patrol than the speed as the road was clear and dry and you could see ahead a good 2-3 miles.

Don't drive faster than your gaurdian angel can fly. In the mid 1950's my dad had a dog run out in front of him while he was riding down the road on a 1953 Bmw R51 motorcycle. He laid the bike down, and had to ride himeself to the hospital that was 20km away. If he had been speeding he would have been killed. The same applies to any vehicle in 2006.

As for getting the ticket - I feel for you financially, but let's face it, even at 95 in a 70 you were asking for it.

As for those speeds not being meant for American roads - if memory serves me right, in certain Western states (Montana at least) it used to be the case (and may still be) that the speed limit posted on the interstates was the suggested maximum nighttime speed, and during daylight hours the sky was the limit.

As far as other parts of the country, including mine, it seems nowadays that 90% of the drivers on the interstate take the posted limit to be the MINIMUM speed at which they should be traveling. On I-77 between I-85 and I-40, there are times I've been literally boxed into the right lane for 10 miles at a time by a constant stream of idiots traveling bumper to bumper in the left lane at 80 in a 65 mph zone. It's no wonder that that stretch of highway gets closed at least once per week due to accidents.

I dont drive it that much...only 5000 miles so far...But I love the diesel mercedes...keeping the Aston under 100 is kinda hard...its like a high-spirited thorough-bred with a bad attitude. Drive it to the mall...and u come out with guys standing around gawking at it....Kinda cool! I have a 2003 Carrera 4 convertible and it doesnt get that much attention at all...Things that make you go..hmmmmm. Oh well, keep dieseling!
