What about the IP timing?

I'm not familiar with the 606, but I would have my IP timing checked. Bosch injection pumps are usually robust and don't usually got out in a couple of thousand miles. On the other hand, if the IP timing is set incorrectly, that engine could drive 300,000 miles and the owner will say something like, it's good once it gets started with the IP timing being off for over 295,000 of those miles and that is based on the assumption that the IP is timed correctly before it leaves the factory, when new, I guess. Anyway, I believe that if the IP timing isn't set correctly, you will have problems. Which reminds me, have you checked that EGR??? that could be causing the carbon build up causing the glow plugs to stick and break off. Also, I would guess that the computer will do what it does to control fuel distribution if that is what the computer does on these cars, whether the IP is timed correctly or not. But to answer your question, a used one is at www.car-parts.com for $550.00. And I'm sure Phil could get you one.

If you need an IP

Adsitco has every last one of them. In fact, there aren't many parts that they do not have or cannot get.

You are going to when you see the price though. You won't find that part on the cheap anywhere. If the IP has gone bad the motor may not be worth salvaging - they are that expensive and they really should last as long as the bottom end of the motor.

Non-approved fuel strikes again. (Sorry, could not resist.)

Adsitco had the IP for my 617 a little cheaper than fastlane (under $800), but I've heard about too many "customer service" problems with them (my indy will not deal with them anymore). I ended up paying a little more, but sometimes you do get what you pay for.

For the love of Mike, get a phone book and start calling Diesel injection services. There must be about a bazillion of them on the East Coast. After talking to 10 of them you should have a pretty good handle on the cost and availability of your pump.

If the pump costs more than you want to spend sell/junk the car. If you can afford it, buy it, and keep on trucking.
