E320 Cdi

We just took the plunge and got a 2006 CDI. Wow what a car. Driving home, on a twisty mountain road the car really shined. It has just enough "growl" to not let you forget it's a diesel. The computer said I was averaging 35 MPG and I was traveling 80 MPH once I got on the highway. It will also peel out on dry pavement - good thing it is my wife's car!

I plan to run biodiesel in it and I heard that Willie Nelson melted his fuel lines on his - this I can handle, but what about the plastic fuel tank?

Nice!! Did you get it used? How much and how many miles? The fuel tank should have absolutely no issue with biodiesel. Biodiesel is only known to gradually swell rubber and clean up the fuel system really good. Beware that car manufacturers will sometimes void your warranty if they catch you using blends above 5% while you're in with a fuel system problem. But I wouldn't let that keep me from using a high-quality (certified) biodiesel.

Mercedes does not allow anyone to run more than B5 (5%) in any CDI. They will immediately void the engine and fuel system warranty if they find a fuel mix higher than B5. WVO is completely out of the question, the common rail system cannot handle the added viscosity of the fuel and will damage the injection nozzles in short order. I guarantee you that Willies fuel lines were not covered under MB's warranty.

Willie can afford to keep replacing expensive fuel system components, can you?

Why dont you just run Diesel. That car is designed to run diesel. Why run bio or veggie. Dont you just love the smell of that diesel?

I definitely would not run WVO but see no reason why commercial Bio-D should not work.

E320 CDI w/greasecar kit

"WVO is completely out of the question, the common rail system cannot handle the added viscosity of the fuel and will damage the injection nozzles in short order." No arguement on this from me. However people have the money to give it a try and accept consequences. The fact that Greasecar got paid for doing a conversion doesn't mean that the wvo won't harm the car, in my opinion anyway.

For sure. If they have the money to buy a $55,000 car and the balls to experiment, knowingly voiding the manufacturers warranty, more power to them.

ahh the anti-alternative fuelers....

Anyway enough with them. Great buy!! your in alameda right??? BRING THAT CAR TO THE NEXT MEET!!!! PLEASE!!

Anyway, The VW passat TDI my mom owns is also limited to B5 because of the quality issue with bio we have here. BUT as long as you run the car on HIGH QUALITY biodiesel you shouldnt have any problems just like we dont with the passat.

Since your in the alameda you can get biodiesel delivered to your house in 55gallon drums for $2.75/gallon (cheaper then diesel around these parts)

Call micheal, he will hook you up. Its quality bio, the passat TDI has had no problems with it, and neither has the benzos or the ford powerstroke.

Here is his number: 510-712-7897

Leave him a message if he doesnt pick up, tell him Ruben sent you.

Happy driving!

Not considering WVO

Thanks for the contact for the biodiesel. For the last two years we have been getting it from BioFuel Oasis in Berkeley (B99 @ $3.70/gal!!), which is supposed to be made to ASTM specifications. Up until now I have just taken their word for it that it meets the specifications but I recently requested copies of their test result sheets and I will wait until I see them.

Does anyone know if every batch of biodiesel sold by a commercial dealer like them needs to be tested and certified? Or is just a subset of the batches tested?

This morning I conducted a "wash" test on their fuel by shaking & mixing a 50/50 biodiesel/water mixture. I had to leave before I could watch how it seperates, I will check it tonight.

BTW when I was driving my 6 year old daughter to school this AM she said to "beat" that car in front of us , so I kicked it down, passed it, and got a speeding ticket in the process . I am so used to flooring my 300D all the time!! I have not had a ticket for over 15 years, back when I used to have a german sports car!!

Did you try the "I couldn't have been going that fast, it's a diesel!" trick?

That's a good one, I'll try to remember it next time .
I did tell him I just got the car yesterday and I was not used to it. I mentioned that it was a diesel and the policeman mumbled "must be a turbo" . Anyway the ticket is a "soft" ticket as it will not result in any points against my license.
