I don't see why not. We have owners of SUVs and trucks from other countries that aren't made by MB with OM616s and OM603s installed from the factory posting.

Anyone know what the MSRP of one of these suckers will be? Just curious, because the M-Class CDI isn't really that high-priced, in my opinion. I mean, I couldn't afford one with my entire year's salary pre-tax, but in the grand scheme of things. My car's MSRP in 1987 was almost $40,000, whereas 20 years later the M-Class CDI is only about $5,000 more than that.
My Jeep Liberty CRD was $28,000, although I may be way off ... obviously I pay it in installments so sometimes I forget. Would think the Cherokee will be significantly more expensive, eh?

Oh yeah, and I think it would be perfectly cool to post about anything with a MB engine in it in here.

I saw a Silver R320cdi and a Black ML320cdi today at the dealership! I was drooling!! I wish I could test drive them, somehow I think they'd tell me to "go away" though.

cdi grand cherokee

At the dealership today. No info about pricing but the brochure lists the bluetec diesel as an option. Availability is delayed until later in 07 though.

my poorly written post

I'm sorry. I meant to say 'I' was at the dealership today and came across a brochure for the grand cherokee that included the diesel motor as an option. They don't even have this info on the jeep website. Sorry about the crappily written previous post.

BMW X3 beats it on the ugly scale, barely.

I agree, they are basically just mini-vans anyway. Half the soccer mom's around here seem to drive them. A diesel version would be slightly more interesting, but not much. Besides, if I want to drive a U.S. made car I'll just drive my POS jeep.

I would tend not to buy from any Mercedes dealer that treats you that kind of "go away" attitude. My local dealer for years didn't offer me test drives after stopping in to "just look". I bought elsewhere.

It's the cheapest way into a new CDI right now unless you want to drive a Sprinter.

The Sprinter uses an older-tech inline-5 than the new V6 ML CDI. I heard that Jeep might be getting a CDI in one of their models.

Nice engine; personally I love the torque. 398 lb-ft can be a lot of fun.

Um, hello?
Anybody think the DaimlerChrysler split will have an impact on Jeeps (Chryslers) getting CDIs?
It's an excellent idea, but is it going to happen?
