CDI's
Has anyone got any feedback on the cdi's...how they are holding up quality wise? Would the only drawback to purchasing one be on the pricey sticker?

![]() There quality has been crap for over 10 years. No reason to think it is getting better as Chrysler gets in deeper and deeper.....

Simplicity. There is 1000x more junk to break on a CDI and many components are fragile electronics. Let's compare engines.
![]() 300D on the left, 320 CDI on the right. The 2006 E320 CDI with the I-6 CDI is the newest MB I would ever consider. |

The one on the right is the new V-6 CDI correct.

Yes. Compare it to the relative simplicity of the 05-06 Inline-6 CDI.

80,000-100,000 miles before rebuild here for the C220 here in India, not bad as compared to other CDI engines from likes of VW etc.

The one on the bottom right is the oil filter.
There are two (2) air filters on there. |

The power steering reservoir is right above it, too.

Wow!! Forget about the miti-vac's on that motor...and get hi-tech. From the original article I read when they were first introduced, it said that they were the fastest diesel's ever produced. I would definitely miss all that pre-ignition owning one of them.

![]() hey you old men (previous comments), don't be afraid of technology, unless you're 80 years old, you're going to have suck it up and just be cool with the fact that complication does not equal evil. 100 years ago you all would have been *****in about these compression engines and how whacky they are compared to your simple little horse carriage. I would give my 80 TD, my 86 VW and my 87 TD for a CDI wagon. Oh wait, that's not even close to enough...

It isn't the technology, chief. It's reliability and handing a factory mechanic huge piles of $$$$$ that is scary. Perkins, you were makin perfect sense up to and through the old men part. ![]() ![]()

![]() there's people who are anti "new cars" and this group has quite a few of 'em (the W123 diehards). Not a big deal but it just makes me laugh a little bit. Reminds me of the air-cooled crowd from my days of VW shows and swap meets. Those people hated (and still do) water-cooled VW's just because they had the extra complication of water. I'm just messing with you guys though, been drinkin' some wine and feeling a little saucy ![]()
