I think his/her/it's profile says it all.

Pity it's only three months.

I doubt we'll hear from him/her/it again, that's probably about 2.9 months longer than his attention span.

I know that the cottom waste portion isnt.. The center portion probably is..

When I took a Hengst filter apart I noticed how the cottin waste was not even capable of 10 microns.. maybe 30 on a good day. Plus it was wrapped in a tight weave cotton fabric (maybe the 5 micron portion)... Im keeping on a look out for those Fram Filters from Turkey

Something most environmentalists don't get is that it takes more energy to produce the average car than it takes to run it.

From what I gather after reading that massive oil filter thread, at idle most of the oil is finely filtered through that gin waste, which was most likely not what the MB engineers intended to be in there. When rpm's, and thus oil pressure are raised, the oil is "bypassed" through the rest of the filter that doesn't filter quite as finely as the lower portion. I just use a wix filter since I can't get ahold of any Turkey Frams and I'm not putting that gin waste crap, bugs, and twigs in my engine.

Oil is always flowing through the bypass section. The flow is restricted through a small 1mm hole that can be seen on the filter lid's shaft.

Hey Forced, do you run a standard issue filter in you car now that you have the AmsOil bypass, or the full-length full-flow wix unit from Napa?

Just wondering....... though I have two brand new Mann's to use up before I have any choice anyhow.....

The Wix is a combo filter just like the others, but usually better quality (cord wound bypass section rather than gin trash, for example).

All MBs after the W115 chassis for sure (and earlier for gassers) use combo filters, and yes, the bypass section DOES filter to close to 5 micron.

Yeah, I've been scratching mine so compulsively lately that I have developed quite an inflammation... which discomfort greatly interferes with my sleep at night... I have nightmares of you driving your car for thousands and thousands of miles... without end... and me sitting on the edge of my chair in a large theater filled with 3kmile changers... all of us incapable of taking our eyes off you on the screen... as you drive and drive and drive... all of us biting compulsively our fingernails...

Get a life, pal, it might do you good.
