New Member and rack damper question
Hello. First post here, although I have spent the last couple of weeks really going through the archives. Lots of information there! Anyway, I live in Winston Salem, North Carolina with my wife and 6 kids. I have been a Volvo, Saab and MG/Triumph person for years. I work at a Volvo dealership as a technician for the past 11 years. Anyway, first Mercedes purchase here. Bought a 1983 300TD wagon for my wife. It was time for her to get a new car. She has been driving the same Volvo 240 wagon for years, but we needed another car with a 3rd seat. Decided on the 300TD. Anyway, great car, runs and looks great! I have done some things on it: diesel purge, filters, oil change, valve adjustment, a/c overhaul, some vacuum work(trans is like butter now), sls filter and flush, and various small trim pieces. Now, for the question. I decided after reading to install a new ip rack damper as a matter of course. Car has a little shake, but nothing bad at all. Normal I would say. Anyway, I installed it until I felt resistance, and then went in a smidge more. Went for a drive and attempted to fine tune it. Screwed it out all the way and no loping whatsoever. Ran perfect. Went back to my first setting and left it there. My question, since it seemed to have no effect really on the running of the car, where would be the best position to install it? Where I have it now, screwed in until I felt resistance and then just a hair more? Anyway, look forward to participating in this forum. I wish now that this car was mine though. My wife and kids love it, and the Volvo now becomes my driver. I do see another 300TD in the future though (for me) in the future. Thanks for replies. Emmanuel.
