I recently replaced a front crankshaft seal on a M102 and the seal came with its own little "plastic cup" dildo! So I reckon the craze has caught on...

Front Crankshaft Seal
I found it to be much easier to first install the seal and then install the seal wear ring.

Seal Installer Tool
I recently used a tool kit with multiple aluminum components which does the job that the factory tool does. It's pricey at around $99, but it can be used with other engines so if you have that need it works. The kit is PBT 70960 Private Brand Tools crankshaft seal remover installer kit. It can be found at a number of online sites including Amazon. I attached the pics to show how the tool allows the new spacer ring and the seal to be installed at one time with no chance of inner lip curl or loss of the inner spring. I didn't see it posted any where on the forum so my apologies if this is repeating something already posted.
I tried posting pics of the component parts to show the assembly, but it was too large. so I will list them... Use old Crank Bolt 1. Bushing No. G-M18 2. Installer Plate 3. Mandrel No. 7 4. Install Sleeve K 5. Mandrel No. 4 Insert the new spacer ring into the new seal. push in front to back. push it onto the tool and use the old crank bolt to install. since the inner seal is riding on the spacer ring it won't curl or damage the spring.
