Appreciate all the comments.

Larry, it's the 84SD with the R4 and I can put 3 cans of 134a in and it will leak out within an hour. I can watch it (I couldn't see it before, but have been able to hear it.....this time I saw it)

Pretty significant leak.

I saw the rebuild described on this page: http://trotliner.tripod.com/ac.html and thought that this may be cheaper than the alternative.

Anyways...I was going to bid on a reman R4, but thought I would ask here first.

These guys are in Midlothian, TX and have been really pro with some of us.

No interest, just a heads-up, since you're in TX also.

Last August I paid $150 for a reman at O'reilly's. It has a 1 yr warranty. Being an R-4 I expect it to last one month after warranty expires. I wish I could get an A-6 to fit.

My .02...
1) Are you positive of where the leak is?
2) No way would I try to reseal that compressor while on the car...
2) I'd buy a reman compressor and install it before I screwed around with pulling the clutch off of an R4

Kevin,
If you want to come over we can get the sniffer to confirm where the leak is.

hmmmm....well, if I have to take it off, I may as well buy a new (reman) and replace it...then maybe rebuild this one for later....
