That latest video was AWESOME! I love how people leap away from the car! Talk about a theft deterrent. Some say people will seek revenge on your car if it does something like that. I say if you make it loud enough that they can't bear to be near it, it will protect itself.

I wonder how people in my apartments would mind that every time I lock/unlock my car?

I think I might get a set of these for the SDL this year. They look like they would bolt right in place of the old horns which is a big plus. You really don't want an air horn as your main horn because they are so loud. My friend has a wicked loud one in his E300D and its controlled via a toggle switch. Triple trumpets over 130db's its amazing.

Is that price on their site for a set of two? I might get those too!

I replaced a set (123) with Hellas $70.00, no different than stock, used factory location. Next time I think I'll go with air horns $40.00. On the SD, horns are mounted on the diagnal support in front of rad. Like H'guy got 'em from here http://griotsgarage.com

Ahhh, the harmonized Stebel Nautilus Brio is perfect! Seems like a simple installation, and the horn unit is pretty inexpensive... twistedthrottle.com carries one of the Stebel Nautilus models and it is priced at $39. Does anybody know of any other North American Stebel distributors that carry the Brio model?

Talking

I have a ooooga horn on my 240d. Its not one of those wimpy ones you get from kragen. It is sooo loud and obnoxious. I honked it at a model t when i was driving and he honked back. Classic

A simple test to be sure it is the horn and not the wiring, or something else, is to remove the wires for the horn at the horn and use jumper wires from the battery terminals to the horn. The horn will either work or not work. That way you can be sure it is a horn failure rather than something else.

I ended up buying the 139 db air horn from Autozone for $32. It's made in Italy so I figure it' gotta be loud. Here's a few pics of it installed. The white clip lead is temporarily clipped to the horn wire by the bumper. It's pretty fricken loud! I find that if I blip the horn, I can lower the volumne, i.e. compressor not pumping up to max air.

Any chance of a sound recording of those horns? I've seen those at autozone too, and was thinking of getting them. Though I like the compact Stebel Nautilus horns too....I can't decide!!

I have a sound recorder program on my phone in .WAV format. Will that work? I'll try to remember to record it tomorrow. How do I post a .WAV file?

And that's what I did. On one horn, a terminal broke off from rust. The other one had laryngitis.

I went down to the Griot's Garage store, since I'm nearby, and checked out the horns that they have.

The other design, not the Hella ones, are obscenely loud, at least when you're in their garage and they blip one 3 feet away..

Air Horns

I quit buying air horns years ago. I found they don't seem to last very long. Maybe the technology on their compressors have improved but b4 they needed oiling constantly after a certain period. Then they quit working.

I'd try the electric horns sometime. Less parts, less maintenance.
