If any of Y'all are interested in getting the Hella horns, Susquehannah Motor Sports is a good bit cheaper at $56.74 than Griot's at $69.99 (isn't everywhere cheaper than Griot's?).

Here's a question. My car is a Euro, with most things original (including the badly-stained cloth seats!) Does it have a different horn than the US Spec cars? If so, how can I tell if these weren't yanked for import?

Do you guys actually use your horn enough to care? I'm not sure if I've ever used mine in 5 years and 200K+ miles (maybe once or twice, but I don't remember). I want everything to work correctly, but upgrading my horn would be a 200th on my list of things to do.

Harbor Freight has an air horn for about $30. All self contained and wires directly to your stock horn wire/wires.
I put one on my bike and it's loud. Exact same one Harley Davidson sells only it's not chromed and not $$$$$ either.

So, does that mean you're on the receiving end?
![]() Yes, I use my horn enough to care -- there are plenty of cell-phone-talking, no-signal-merging, green-light-ignoring obliviots who deserve a beep or two! |

If you're assuming that I exhibit such behavior and are underhandedly chastising me for it, you're wrong -- it's not an issue of impatience with me and I don't behave that way. For example, I was coming out of a parking lot last night at a light that I knew lasted only long enough for five cars or so to get through, but the lady the #1 position in the minivan in front of me was fiddling with something and wasn't paying attention to the light -- by the time I finally gave her a beep and she got moving, I just made it through as the light was turning yellow. Sorry, but I don't care to sit through another two- or three-minute light because of someone's inattention. |

Yep I use the horn quite a bit. I live in a rural area, so stray and wild animals, along with the idiots that do not think the are supposed to yeild to traffic exiting or entering the interstate on the two way access roads. My OEM's quit working, so I through on some Pep Boy's Hi/Lo specials. They work ok, but I would prefer to get some loud OEM type, or even a diesel locomotive horn...

I'd say that in a given week.. I have to beep at least 5-6 times for people who really shouldn't be behind the wheel of any vehicle. I get beeped *AT*, maybe once every other month... usually because I have my blinker on for a quarter mile, and nobody is letting me in (so I'll just do the "Jersey" thing and cut infront of someone). Horns are very useful for: *People who take too long to hit the gas at a traffic light. Pay attention.. when the light turns green, foot on the gas and get that line of traffic moving. *People who don't use their freaking blinkers. I'd say that 99% of my honking is for some fool on a cell phone who decides that they want to pass me on the right while going 80mph, and that their Ford Excursion can somehow fit into the spot in front of me, which is barely big enough for a Miata. I've witnessed more accidents from these idiots than anything else. Same goes for people who put their blinker on for a split second AS they're changing lanes. It's not a "warning, I'm turning into your lane" signal... it's supposed to be a "I intend / want to switch lanes". * Old farts (not all of them, but most) who drive in the middle / left lane on a highway, whilst going 45 mph in a 65. Aside from being incredibly dangerous (you never realize how slow they're going until you're right on top of them), it just causes traffic backups. Even in the RIGHT lane, they should put their hazards on. * People who don't know the meaning of "Stop", "Yield", Red lights, "No Turn on Red", and "Merge into your own lane" (they stop). Yield doesn't mean stop, stop doesn't mean go, and a red light doesn't mean "I have five extra seconds to scoot through". I espically love people who try to make a left at those green arrow lights, when the arrow goes off. Oncoming traffic is now flowing, and they nearly hit people. * Gridlockers / idiots who block intersections because they just HAD to blow through that yellow light, so that they can wait in traffic on the other side. * People who drive with high-beams on. People who can't maintain lanes / swerve all over the place. Hummer drivers who take up 1 1/2 lanes, because they can't manage their vehicle properly. People who see you turning / waiting to turn into a parking spot with your blinker on, and decide to cut infront of you and take it anyway. All of these get a honking. Let's not forget drunk drivers / suspicous drivers.. which I not only honk at, but call the cops for. Sorry, slow work day and I figured I'd let out all the reasons that a horn is incredibly useful. There's just way too many stupid drivers on the road these days, and inattentive people who need to be slapped around a little. Need more reasons? I got a million. ![]()

CT is just as bad as NJ, but NJ drivers are in a league of their own.
I love driving in the city, when you are in gridlock you just lay on the horn because. I guess if enough people do the traffic moves or something. ![]()
