thanks for the insight- got off track a bit

it doesnt have a pre. i.p. filter. what it looks like i am going to do is take off the fuel line before the ip and dip it in some diesel and prime that mother a bunch and she should turn over let it run and heat up the wvo and switch it over to the wvo with some added kerosene to break it up a bit and tell her to run it, let it idle to get rid off the wvo, put some biobar and change some filters- hopefully it will just be an afternoon project

if you checked the glow plugs and the glow relay, and changed the spin on fuel filter and all those check out OK, i'd check out the fuel screen inside the fuel tank. my car wouldn't start below 1/4 of a tank because the screen was mostly gunked up. take the hose off the bottom of the tank (collect the diesel that drains out), get the nipple off (19mm) and then take your 46mm socket (yes, no lie it's that big, 10$ at northern tool) and back the screen out. soak that mofo in something to loosen up the gunk (i used denatured alcohol), and then put it all back together and prime it up...

i am not up on checking the plugs- havent researched this

it seems easier just to dip the end of the hose in diesel and prime it(just pull on the round plastic piece too prime?) and see if it starts- i asked the indy he asked me if i wanted a job at his place- what do you think

uh noooo it is a HECK of a lot EASIER to check the glow plugs. Pull out the connector and check the resistance.

The EMA ( Engine Manufacturers Association ) position paper.

http://www.enginemanufacturers.org/admin/library/upload/891.pdf

Base their clams of damage to diesel engines on reports from the Us Department of Energy.

But the only reverence they make is that " The U.S. Department of Energy has stated that, “Raw or refined vegetable oil, or recycled greases that have not been processed into
biodiesel, are not biodiesel and should be avoided."

Not to any actual testing or research.

Here is the U.S. Department of Energies web site search page.
I tried for a half hour to find anything on engine damage and vegetable oil,
and came up with nothing.

What I did find was many references to alternative fuels,
suspiciously ones that could be manufactured at existing refining plants.

I would really hate to know how many millions of dollars have been funneled into the Department of Energy by lobbyists for big oil, and big oil refineries.

I just cannot at this time take these guys as a credible source of information.
Even if they did have any information.

I would really like to hear from the guy that has used vegetable oil and had problems himself.

Or from anyone that has done any real research.

Thank You
RichC

It depends what primer pump you have.

If it has a white top it needs to be unscrewed first then pushed down and pulled up.

If it has a black top, you can just push it down and it will rebound on its own

Thank You

mespe,

"When the valves get tight, they don't open long enough" That's ridiculous. When valves are tight, they actuall stay open longer but its infintesimal.

When valves are tight they don't close all the way and leak causing loss of compression which causes lower temperature on the compression stroke. Thus making it harder to start a cold engine.

got it started

so i checked fuses all good

i disconnected the fuel line before the filter going into the pump. dipped it in some clean diesel primed it and after a few turns it started, idled for awhile, took it for a drive. then some more bad fuel came up and it died. so we added kerosene 2 gals/ tank and we will see if it will burn or she will need to drain the tank

thanks

Bellyboy,

More likely the strainer in the tank is plugged. Take off the rubber fuel line between and the fuel tank and the steel fuel line and see if any fuel runs out. If no fuel comes out, the strainer is plugged, probably by fungus. Look for a brown silicone substance in the strainer. That's fungus.

Clean the strainer and replace it and get a fungacide and add it to the fuel in the tank. Its not necssary to drain the tank. Little fungus will come out in the fuel because it attaches it self to sides of the fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel filter, ETC. The fungacide will kill the fungus and that will solve the problem, but U will probably have to change a few filters because the dead fungus collects in the filters.
