WA State proposed engine displacement tax
Get ready to be raped if you live in Washington state. They are proposing and engine displacement tax as well as a tax on co2 emissions per mile. With just the displacement tax alone for my two cars each year it would be $225 for the 300SD and $400 for my 63 T-bird. With the CO2 tax I would get raped again because my SD has the Cali trap ox.
Diesel owners would get unfairly punished as a diesel engine needs a larger displacement to give the same power as a gas engine. If you live in Washington State contact your state reps and urge them to kill this!!!!

Be glad you do not drive a rattle joke, or one of the V-10 powered trucks.

But in parts of Europe, don't you also get a tax credit for diesels?

It might not pass "this time"; but I bet it will not go away either. Im am thinking the state wants to qualify for some sort of Federal money if it dose something about reducing certain emissions. I is easier to gouge the regular citizen than some big Industry that can afford the Lawyers.
I hope it gets more people involved enough to vote out the bills sponsers.

Another reason it would suck to live in the NW.

What are the other reasons?
Funny, I've been in the NW for 28 years and can't think of one reason why it sucks to live here. I'd like to see your list.

Here is my letter to Sen. Maria Cantwell:
Ms. Cantwell I have recently become aware of Senate bill 6900 relating to the tax of vehicles based on engine displacement. As a Civil Engineer, and husband of a Washington State Department of Transportation employee I am aware of how important funding for the State’s roadways is, but I believe that the State’s roadways are receiving adequate funding through the 2003 “nickel” funding package and the 2005 transportation tax package. Together these funding packages have or will fund 432 projects over a span of 18 years. As an automotive hobbyist I own several older vehicles which are rarely driven, but would cost me an additional $1075 to register under the proposed bill. If and when the time comes where the current tax packages are not adequate to fund the states transportation system, I propose that another “use” based tax (such as a mileage or fuel tax) is enacted, rather than a “blind” tax such as the proposed displacement tax which needlessly penalizes vehicle owners with no respect to the amount of use or roadway wear that the vehicles produce. Thank you for your time.
