What to do?

Wow, after reading all these posts, I have no idea what to do. I have essentially 4 M-B a/c units in 4 cars. Two are converted and labeled 134 by POs, the other two are R-12. None of them work. While I have the gauges and pump back from the mid 1980's for R-12, I have not worked on a system for decades. All systems are complete and all compressors, York, turn. I want to make two working systems out of the collection. What to do?

BTW, I purchased my 1993 Dodge (Cummins) new. It has been a trouble free engine (Bosch IP broke one spring), and almost trouble free truck for 320K miles. It has the original a/c system with all the original parts. Two years ago, the heater core sprung a tiny leak, just enough to drip out the heater duct at random times. To change the core, the entire evaporator/heater box must come out from behind/under the dash, meaning the a/c system must be discharged. A local a/c shop removed the R-12 for $50, since I can't recover it. I did the heater repair, then pumped down the a/c system for several days. I then had the shop "return" my R-12 for another $50. It's still working! These systems can live a long time.

15years and only one tear-out is pretty good for a ChryCo A/C system, they're doing better.

Ron, first check for leaks....
You might want to rent or buy a tank of nitrogen for this... you can add four ounces of R22 to a fill of nitrogen and use a leak detector to search for it....
You can discharge it into the atmosphere after you find the leak...
Lots of people will now post saying you can't do that... but the rules allow that to encourage finding leaks.... better to put four oz into the atmosphere and be dealing with a sealed system than keep putting refrigerant into a slowly leaking system forever...
I have never heard of anyone having four York compressors ... they are very sturdy compared to the Delco... you will need to bend your own ' oil dip stick' to get the right level of oil in them... instructions are in the MB AC Manual...
