As John said, yup, I'm an OM602/603 kinda guy. And when running well, the 60x do generate less soot. My departed OM617 generated noticeably more... roughly 1% per 3000 miles, but it varied a lot each time. And that was with the EGR disabled. (!)

Both my 603 engines have been pretty consistent at 1% per 10,000 miles with EGR disabled. My 602 had been approx 1% per 3000 with EGR, but I just killed the EGR, and I'm very curious what the next oil analysis looks like (gotta wait a while though... another 8kmi before it's due for a change.)

Jeff, that is another of many reasons why I choose to do extended drain intervals, which requires the use of good Group IV/V oils...

Thats not to bad, I was getting some wicked deals before because the dealer had about 3 cases of old D1 gallons in the back. I ain't about to post them online because I bet some of thoes guys read these boards. Anyway I think sticker is like $25 a gallon, not sure I'll find out at some point though.

I just did an oil change with Mobil 1 on my wife's Toyota. The oil jugs still say fully synthetic on them. I was going to have the oil analyzed, but it that small engine it cost less to just change the oil.

I don't even know what kind of oil is in my moms Toyota, we just drop it off at the dealer every 3,500 miles for the free oil change they offer and thats that. Its like getting the dishwasher fixed, don't give a damn.

I think they use 0 or 5w-20 now.

Talking

Yeah the dealer we brought it from includes free oil changes for life.

Its hardly worth it though because you have to make an appointment and it takes like an hour or so. If I had to go and sit their I would rather just buy the oil and do it myself. Its cheap on those cars, and takes like 10 minutes.

But its good because my mom doesn't seem to mind.

The dealer's plan is to also sell you all the scheduled services that are due when you come in for an oil change, maybe an extra that's not needed but suggested. They will cover the oil change cost with the other services. Probably a break even deal for the customer but a good selling point for the dealer.

Bull. THe stuff you're looking for is boron and zinc. Adn it IS in some specific "Classic Car" oil here in the US. CePenCo has some

FAA part Number?

For: CSW

Do any of OUR favorite oils (D-1 , M-1,RedLine,Amsoil) have an FAA part number?

could this simply be because of the efficient 4v per cylinder design of the 603? With more oxygen to burn there is less unburnt diesel (black smoke) That may be a large cause of it. Also inline six cylinders are naturally balanced as well, Not sure how that matters, but it helps them rev more freely.
