Reclining w116 seat? I tried w126 rear seats but they're riveted. Not sure if w116's are the same.

60 bucks per side? I assume that didn't come with the headrest support rods since you are using w126 supports.

Today I added an outside Temp Display donated from a w126. My other cars have a temp display and it's very useful info to have. Especially when your traveling and may run across a below freezing area that may have ice patches. Or if my passengers want to know how much past 100º F (38º C) it is outside in Central California during the summer.

The display is in Celsius and pic showing around 75º Fahrenheit.

Here are the components that needed to be installed.

I got the idea and baseline info from forum member Biodiesel300TD here in this THREAD.

I took pictures of my install and will post the pictorial on another thread later.

Yes, me too! I've been wanting to do this since shortly after I bought my 240D. I have asked no less than 3 different sellers on Ebay if this can be used in my 1979 W123 sedan and none of them even responded to me. I'd come to the conclusion that it must have to interface through the engine management computer, so therefore could not be done on an old diesel. Glad to know my assumption was wrong.

This is very nice information. I've been thinking of doing the rear headrest mod as well. That's how I found this thread. Reasearching how to add them. I have found a good set. They're the newer style. My driver seat has been swapped out of an 82, so only my front passenger seat still has the "bunny ears" headrests. I guess I'm going modern

quick questions:

let's say you have two headrests, the four total short brackets for the headrests, the four total grommets/eyelet mouldings, and that's it. you're putting the rear headrests into a 300D sedan that already has the two straight frame supports (not the triangular ones) on the back of the seat. you are missing the triangular support that completes the job.

can you get these triangular supports out of a w123 WAGON that has "rear" headrests already, or do you need to find a donor sedan that had rear headrests as an option to begin with? (or get them from the dealer). does anyone have a pic of inside of a wagon seat?

The triangle piece acts like a button that you can press down to be able to remove the head rest or move it up or down. Theoretically you can do without it and have the height position permanent. The wagon setup is different.

The last I checked, my local dealership found a 100 of these triangle pieces in Germany. But was not able to access them. Maybe your dealership is better and can order them. They however could order the whole mounting kit which includes the parts shown in circle 5 in the above pic. That part number is 123 970 01 00 and was listed at $59.29 for each side.

One question to you Squabble for clarity, you stated you have the two straight frame supports. There should be four (4 qty) supports. Two are removable and the other two are spot welded from the factory.

i see. i was stating that i had the two factory spot welded long supports that came with my car in the seat. i also made the wrong assumption that the triangular pieces were attached to another long support and that it was one piece. from the pics i see that there is one support and one triangular piece. what does that triangular piece attach to? isn't number 108 in the top sedan picture the same as number 20 in the bottom picture?

but, i guess none of that would matter if i didn't mind that they weren't adjustable. i could put rear headrests in if i had only the pair of headrests, the eyelet mouldings, and the set of brackets that attach the headrests to the factory long supports in the back of the seat...? for clarity, i'm talking about having only the things shown in this ebay auction:

i'm curious about the 1st pic in your 1st post: it has 4 total long supports showing, two for each head rest. but the pics you just posted only have 1 post showing and one of the sliding post on the headrest just seems to slide down into nowhere inside the seat. that's what i'm curious about, do you need the extra long support too?

It attaches in front of #60 (in the middle pic) or #17 (in the last pic), which is sandwiched in between by the long frame support.

With this you would still need the other two long bracing support as seen in this pic I posted earlier.

Plus you will have to make sure they include the bottom "lockdown" pieces of the eyelets.

Yes they are not the best pictures that represent what is actually there. Go by my earlier pictures. They are actually one side of one headrest post.
