mods???

Hmmmm.......
I'll give this thread a go........

I ripped out the ricer single cd player deck. Replaced it with an authentic Mercedes Benz cassette deck. Even paid to get the code, so it would work.
Worked numerous hours to get the bypassed fader switch to work.
Installed a w126 clip and warning triangle.
Replaced the original dash with period correct dash without cracks.
Replace the driver's original seat with a black incorrect pattern seat from a 560SEL; to which was replace with a period correct seat pattern.

Well? How have I done so far?

My 124 has genuine Bosch euro lights, ebay clear corners (because I couldn't find a decent price on a pair of real ones), 16" 500E 8-hole wheels, and 225/50 Michelin Pilot Exalto all season performance rubber.

Next up I think will be the 94-95 style tail lights with the clear turn signal lenses, and real Bosch clear corners if I can find a good price.

See sig for pic!

mods to 80 240D

Removed Mercedes grill and propeller, installed 84 Thunderbird grill, making it a "Mersey-bird" or a "Thunder-Benz". (hood was stuck closed when I bought it, I wanted more access to the latch in case it happens again. Didn't break the grill with the hammer & screwdriver, but came close)
Removed hubcaps for more of that South African farmer look.
Installed goldenrod 1 quart fuel filter because I had to change the primary filter 3 times on trip to Chalma,NM. Right side near AC freon canister.
Installed Fomoco heater core, didn't feel like pulling the dash out to install Mcd core from the back of the box. Anybody want an unused $350 Mercedes W123 80 heater core?
Replaced ashtray with dual power panel to use dual electric heaters to defrost windshield and drive home after work (7AM) before the engine heats up.
Looking for rear oversize springs, taking all my tools out to the country property makes the rear end sag. That's why I bought the car, I have 2 diesel tractor/lawnmowers out there that don't run right now.

I'm very interested in your Fomoco heater core installation. For the same reasons as you, I'm considering some sort of alternate heater for my '84 Euro TD. Please PM me if needed.

Otherwise on my TD, I replaced the mangled Euro rear bumper and broken Euro headlights with US versions - what I already had on hand.
(PO had already installed a US bumper in front)
Then I painted a crappy set of US headlight doors a matching Ivory body color for a custom touch.
(I've since found complete Euro bumpers and headlights to put it back to OE someday)

Replaced dead alternator with 100+ amp Bosch unit, including customized cable for B+ connection.

Replaced the PO's malfunctioning, distracting jukebox-ricer CD radio with a vintage Blaupunkt cassette unit, wired so I don't need the key. Added a simple cupholder to the center-tray.

Happy Motoring, Mark

on my '81 coupe.......

- A/C deleted. Permanently.
- Monovalve bypass
- Neat wide-angle right side mirror I got at a McParts place. Looks like it came off a '64 Ford Galaxy but it's actually very functional.
- Almost straight-thru exhaust. I have a rear muffler but no center resonator. Probably added a whopping 1.5-2HP.
- Aftermarket tranny cooler the size for a Greyhound bus, mounted in front of radiator.
- Halogen headlights
- Fender turn signals. Amber. (probably my favorite mod. I'm a big believer in them, especially if you have to change lanes on the Garden State Parkway a lot)

81 300SD

Color change from faded chalky blue to Metallic dark gunmetal grey and high gloss black
Change interior from torn up and ratty gray to a very nice Saffron interior
16" wheels
Tinted windows
Aftermarket CD player with new 4x6's up front, 6x9's on the rear shelf and a 15" punch in the trunk(nothing ricer about having tunes that sound like 2008 instead of 1981)
Heated mirrors(were they even an option in 81?)
Wired in passenger door solenoid so my all my doors unlock when I unlock the passenger side(what year was this standard? not 81)
Alda tweak
EGR disabled
Of course the laundry list of repairs, rebuild trans, heater vacuum issues, bowden cable, oil cooler lines, thermostat, monovalve.

Future mods
Keyless entry with remote start
Modify & reupholster rear package shelf to make my 6x9's fit nicer
Black out the grille
18" wheels
H&R lowering springs
Better flowing, non leaking exhaust.

Only had this car since april so I am just getting started.
