Just bought a 1978 300CD

Paid $500 for it.

Body is in really good shape,
runs well,
but needs work on the interrior.

I bought a shiny new, blue/blue MB Tex '79 300CD off the showroom floor at Stephenson Motors in Dallas in the fall of 1979, drove it for 225K miles, gave it to my oldest son when he graduated from college. Then I went back to Stephenson Motors and bought a shiny new, blue/blue leather '84 300CD that was also sitting the same showroom floor, in the same spot the '79 occupied when I bought it.
Still driving the '84. Best looking coupe MB ever built and the last of the chrome and steel battering rams.

Mine is parked by the barn, quietly rusting away. The floor under the passenger seat is gone, the clear coat is peeling like a bad sunburn, and the windshield took a rock hit a few years ago. Would not start this winter as the battery was drained, but last monday I hooked up the charger, got the battery up to 60% and the engine fired right up. Sigh.

i've always lusted for a turbo. i think a 123 sedan looks very dated (it is), while the coupe still looks very elegant.

I love mine. Got the turbo pumping out an average of 12psi, max boost is 19. Car flys now... my E320 wagon would absolutely smoke it... but the 85 300CD is more fun to drive.

Love it's sound, I can actually hear the turbo now, I hear the waste gate open etc... Engine is strong. NEeds a lot of love still. I hate it's color (gold) and have been tempted many times to tear it apart and have it repainted... but damn if it doesn't get complements as it is so I have left it alone. Needs a headliner, some seat work, new wood, rubber around the doors, rear actuators (work but only half way) Sunroof only will open half way. sigh... even with all it's issues it's still the car I drive 90% of the time.

There is a local guy selling one... In rough shape... really rough. He's asking 2k for it, personally I think its worth about 6-8 hundred as a parts car at best.
There are fist sized rust holes in it etc...

Here are pictures of it...
