Fuel Running down side of car

So, there is water or fuel or a combo on the side of my car coming from the fuel door.
You know how there is a space, like a catch all space under the gas cap?
Mine has been filling up with water or fuel or bio and just sits there until I move. Then is dribbles out of there and all down the side of my car.
Looks awful and I can't seem to get the marks off the car without ruining the clear coat.

First, is there supposed to be a drain in that so the extra fuel dumps out the bottom of the car and not the side?

Second, does anyone know of a really good cleaner I can use to get the gunk off the side of the car without hurting the paint?

Thanks!

Purple Power is what I use. It worked great on my car, the PO of my 85 300D had WVO there. http://www.clean-rite.com/

You may have growing diesel syndrome if you 2 tank, or bio may have rotted the seal on your filler cap. Hard left turn and fuel sloshes up the filler tube. If the seal is not so great, nothing to stop it from puking.

Don't wipe it with a regular paper towel, it'll put marks in the finish of the paint.

There is a drain. You may need to chase it with some thick weed eater line.

Be careful "chasing" the drain line- if you push too hard, you could displace the rubber hose and have overflow fuel running into your trunk!!

It should drain by the right rear wheel, as long as your fuel fill door is on the right side.

that is almost a certainty if you use biod regularly...well, its a certaintly on mine. you can get replacement rubber gaskets for the fuel filler cap from fastlane, as well as the rubber grommet that seals around the neck of the filler pipe and the body of the car.

i've only replaced mine once so far, but they looked good when i got the car, and after a year of using biodiesel, it looked like the grommet had melted...although it probably was really old rubber, we'll see how long a new one lasts

Purple Power and a wheel brush works great on OE brake dust too.

When I bought my 83 I had the same problem. Took the easy route and replaced the filler cap and problems disappeared. Have run bio for 23K so far with no problems. When I first started running bio, I did damage my paint a bit by leaving a spot of bio on the trunk deck. Cannot seem to clean or rub that one out.
