Don't feel too terribly bad. The tranny can be fixed. This will last forever:

Have I ever mentioned how I hate rust!!

Kind of ironic to hear this from you today. Andy emailed me earlier in the day. He has lost the title to the Squash and is taking steps to get a replacement.
There is about an hour left in the day. I hope I don't hear from the guy who bought Smash.....

Don't worry about it. I take all my dealer cars to get inspected before selling but a few still slip through the cracks. One had a head gasket blow 200 miles after they bought it (Lincoln Continental with 3.8 Taurus engine), and another got home only for his mechanic to find the crank pulley was starting to sheer off (89 Grand Wagoneer). These folks got the standard basically non-existent warranty. Stuff happens.

Looks like I'll be going the used route. I'd be spending $1500-$1600 for a quality rebuild from out of state shipped (I don't trust any local rebuilders here), plus 8 billable hours for installation at $70 at my indy. By going used with my buddy's salvage yard, he'll also R&R it for me at $50 an hour. A 90,000 mile unit from Cailfornia runs about $700 to the door and comes with a 6 month warranty.

You bet I'll dig around in the old one and figure out what happened.

The tach on my car was doing the same thing yours is and I removed the ovpr, took the fuse out and filled it with contact cleaner, shook it and let it dry out. When I replaced the ovpr(with the fuse) the tach started working full time.

Yesterday I dug the car out and had it towed down to my friend's shop for the transmission swap. I was surprised that they cleaned the tranny then painted it a metallic color. Californians are all about how something looks, I guess. Lets hope it shifts just as pretty.

Maybe there are shifting implants inside that metallic spray-tan.
Very impressive snow. Never before seen by that car, for sure!!

At least it looks clean, I'd prefer that over a disgusting transmission any day.

Hopefully all goes well. Was this a rebuilt unit or just used? I don't remember.

However this does remind me that I need to call Bob back today about those wheels!

Hi jimmy,

Wanted to see if you had any updates on the transmission install and all; Also wanted to ask of you had any progress with the tachometer.

Cheers

I haven't had a lick of trouble in the last three years, but then again I haven't owned this car for 3 years this month.
Tach problem was a relay. can't remember what its called, but it's very common.
I really miss this car, but I love the Acura....
By the way, the new owner is on the forum. I just can't think of his name.

My bad. Was it the OVP relay by any chance?
