Lubrication

OldWolf,

When I rant about the Rotella T 5W40 Synthetic in the Diesel there is a DisClaimer:
1.I treat the 5W40 just like it's a Mineral based Lube...3000 Miles and the Oil+ Filter gets changed.
[It's advantage is slightly lower cost and much more of a
Diesel additive package (CAN YOU SAY Zinc?) ]
2.As pointed out earlier, the OIL is the Coolant AND Lubricant for both the
Injection Pump AND the Turbocharger![AND Turbos BEAT the FOOL out of OIL]

DO NOT MIX: BRANDS , VISCOSITY(s) !
Nothing Good can come from "Playing" Petro-Chemist!

The Mobil 1 Truck and Turbodiesel [A.K.A. Delvac 1]is rated for C [Compression]type engines.

I would feel comfortable running 5K oil+ filter intervals with:
Royal Purple,Redline and Delvac 1 WITHOUT oil testing. (O.K. Amsoil Too)

I never had any cranking issues when running synthetic in the winter. The only time I had problems was with 15w40 dino which turned over real slow on those super cold mornings.

You can get that fake synthetic pretty cheap, Rotella T 5W40, which is a good oil and from my experiance with my 300SD still allowed the old 617 to crank over quickly.

After using both I would never run a dino oil in any old MB diesel in the winter.

I used Shell ROTELLA "synthetic" 5w-40 (blue jug) for years in VW and Mercedes diesel best bang for the buck.

IYHO. Some of us prefer "real synthetic".

I change oil at home every 3000 miles so I do not need "real synthetic"

Mobil 1 5w-40 Turbodiesel is no longer the same as Delvac 1. It used to be the same when it was called Mobil 1 5W-40 "Truck and SUV." I believe they both have the same CJ4 rating, but the additives are different. Delvac 1 is the same formula as the old 5W-40.

It doesn't magically cost less than the new stuff, it's different!
