1980 300SD door lock jammed
I've had this problem before but it was very brief and after a push or two it went back to normal. Now, I can't move the key. It'll go all the way into my driver's side door, but I can't move it left or right. Am I going to have to take apart the handle and everything to figure out what's wrong with it?
Also, my trunk lock doesn't seem to work, but I'm not too concerned with that. Thanks. |

I'd try some graphite powder before disassembling it.

Can you operate it from inside okay? If so, see attachment.

It is very hard to spread graphite powder around...
but spraying with something like PBBlaster may can drip on gummed up friction spots... but taking off the inside door panel may be the best method to keep from messing up anything...

^ The door has to be closed. But if you still have that problem, the easiest thing to do is release pressure on the door lock system and try inside again.
Otherwise you may have to get to the lock, but first, spray the lubricant of you choice in the lock, refrain from using graphite. There may be such a graphite build up in the lock as to seize it.

All of the suggestions are good except do not use graphite.
Where are you and how cold is it. I had a bad window dew wiper allowing water into the lock assembly. Below freezing, I had the same symptoms.

Hey guys, I live in Louisiana so it isn't very cold. Today it was in the 50's and it'll drop to the 40's.
All 4 doors are unlocked, so I can get in and out. I can push the lock down about 1 centimeter, but it pops back up(driver's door), so the door won't lock. I went to my local AutoZone and bought some lubricant(not graphite) which I will try tomorrow, seeing as it's dark and rainy out right now. I don't exactly know what you mean by if I can "operate from the inside". I'm not very experienced with cars. Thanks for the help so far, at least no one at my school will want to steal textbooks. |

Why are people saying don't use graphite. I've read in a number of places that powder graphite is superior to liquid lubricants in locks.
