Talk To Me About This 86 SDL

Hey guys, I am thinking about checking this one out. He dropped it a grand from last week. What is worse case scenario with this, seeing that this year had the bad head? When he says it needs a new air filter and had injector service recently at a reputable benz dealer I wonder what the deal is. Sounds like he knows nothing about diesel benzes and ran across a "steal" and bought it to flip it??? Jim

I'd consider it if it's rust free. Can you check with KNAUZ mercedes in Lake Bluff for more service information?

The reason that you are not getting any responses to your question is that you fail to provide even the slightest bit of info to allow an evaluation of the vehicle. A photo from 10 feet away just doesn't provide any basis for an opinion.

You could have the steal of a lifetime.........or you could have a parts car if the entire subframe is decomposed.

Only a careful evaluation up close and personal will tell the tale. If you don't know what you are looking for.........take as many photos as possible of the exterior and the interior and post them here.

Take a very careful look at the underside for indications of any rust in the body.

Diagnosing the head is effectively impossible on a cursory inspection that lasts two hours.

The story is difficult to follow but this is the sense I make of it - the car was parked for two years because of a $1500 estimate that turned out to be nothing more than an alternator and battery. Then the oil was changed and it hasn't been driven since. It needs an air filter and some rear window work.

That car is dying for a PPI.

Just got back from checking it out. It looks like it was rode hard and put up wet for two years outdoors. Paint was pretty faded from sitting out for 2 years. Interior was pretty rough. Sunroof was broke. Steady light white smoke at idle. Hood latch frozen. Was only able to drive it in the storage facility property b/c no plates or ins. Body didnt look too bad. Probably a 1000 dollar car.
It was a 100 mile round trip, but I am glad I got this one out of my system and my 12 year old daughter rode along and we were able to s
pend some quality time together. Thanks for your input guys. Jim Oh and the windshield was cracked

Yep..........and none of that could be ascertained from the photos.

A classic example of why any advice from the forum cannot be relied upon...........you must see the vehicle in person.
