transmission cooler line nuts STUCK!!

the 19 MM nut on the transmission cooler lines are STUCK. I've sprayed
PB Blaster twice and tried a 17 MM wrench on the back up nut along with a 19mm wrench and no joy. will heating it up with a propane torch help
loosen it up?

Propane would certainly help, although it'll take awhile, since the lines most likely still have fluid in them.

Cut cheap box end so you can get both 17 & 19mm wrenches on. Hold 1 & tap the other with a small hammer. Shocks frequently loosen nuts when steady pressure doesn't. Don't use the BFH as it can do damage. Exra hands may help to keep everything lined up. I have a set of cheap 6pt wrenches with various mods.

Might consider buying some flare nut wrenches.

Often if you try to snug them up a bit.. and then remove them it works too.

QFT - The only way mine would release was with slight tapping on the wrench. I guess that would be the same action as an impact wrench. I would warn against using heat as you may degrade the alum cooler housing...

thanks for the replies. I'm having trouble locating a 19MM flare nut
wrench. Snapon tools makes one and, speaking of which, I have developed a real hunger for getting myself a set of snapons.
of course, I"ll have to get one of the famous Snapon calendars
to go along with the new tools..... that'll give me something to
think about besides busting my knuckles trying to get those
transmission oil lines loose.

thanks for everyone's help, I"ll keep everyone informed of how it comes
out. I've got a new radiator I'm going to install and then
have to solve an engine noise which will be fun. good thing I'm
committed to keeping these old ones on the road as this one has
become a major project.

now....let's see......stare at Snapon tool calendar or climb back under the car to bust my knuckles......hmmm, tough decision......

Harbor Freight will have cheap flare wrenches that size. not the best had tools but decent for the price...and their quality has been slowly improving over the years....the Indians and Chinese are getting better at their metallurgy every day.

I've got older HF wrenches that look pretty crude. The ones they stock now look a lot better. Not Craftsman grade yet but gettin closer...

OK, managed to locate a 19mm Craftsman flare nut wrench. put my 17MM
flare nut wrench on the metal cooler line nut and the 19MM flare nut wrench on the hose nut. only way to get the nut to budge was to bang on the
wrench with a hammer. finally the nut broke loose! new Nissens radiator and
transmission cooler lines are now installed along with nine new hoses and clamps. next step is to fill the coolant system with 50/50 antifreeze/distilled
water and start it up.
