w123 weights (peachparts forum):
"240D is 3208 lbs, 300D is 3516 lbs, 230 is 3197 lbs, 280E is 3527 lbs, 280CE is 3505 lbs, 300CD is 3495 lbs, 300TD is 3780 lbs."

3208+3516+3197+3527+3505+3495+3780 / 7 = 3,461

w123 average weight ~ 3,461 lbs

w126 weights (wikipedia):
1,560 kg (3,439 lb) (280 SE)
1,655 kg (3,649 lb) (500 SEL)
1,650 kg (3,638 lb) (500 SEC)

3,439+3,649+3,638 / 3 = 3,575

w126 average weight ~ 3,575

conclusion: have fun trying to get better fuel economy in your 'more aerodynamic 126' which is ~ 114 lbs. heavier on average, not factoring in the average maximum load capacity weight and optional accessories, of which there were more available for the w126.

Just curious: Why that specific color choice for the engine?

Looks like you're going to beat me to the swap. I'm planning on starting in 2 weeks.

Looking good, as long as you have the engine bay open, check under the motor mounts around the bolt holes.

when I pulled my eng the first time after the timing chain fiasco, I discovered that under and around the bolt holes it was cracked around all 4 holes. had a welder come over and we made some plates to fix the problem.

wish I had a digital camera back then to post them.

Apparently it's the season to be doing engine swaps.

Mine's out right now as well, and the "new" one is sitting beside it waiting patiently on hold while some additional steering parts are in route.

I'd not thought about using a light color paint on the engine block before, but that does make a lot of sense.
