Eh I figure it's a good idea to let the car go through its "self tests" of the various components before starting.

running cars are not much good when the tires are not touching the ground!
Unless you open the door first.

... when you circle every Mercedes (and some VW) that you see in a parking lot looking for the D (Tdi) in the badge.

The nice Police officer pulls you over to let you know a tail light is out, asks you to shut off the engine.
You turn the key off, and nothing happens, (Oops, just changed the oil).

Pop the hood, re-connect the brown vacuum hose, engine shuts off.

Open the trunk, change the bulb from my road repair kit.

No joke, I just had a late-night argument with my friend about if that was true or not.

Also, you might own a diesel if...

- You know where every diesel pump is located in the county.

- You've yelled at somebody for taking the one pump with the diesel nozzle to fill up their gasser.

- You've been yelled at by a trucker for taking up his pump to fill your car.

- You had to explain to the dealer techs that yes, the oil is supposed to be that black.

you spend time lurking in PP diesel discussion.
you spend 1/2 you time trying to work out where a new motor noise is coming from.
your vocabulary includes new words like ALDA

That is exactly what I say to my friends when they ask why drive an old diesel?

If You park at the end of the drive instead of on the new concrete.

if you put on gloves to fill up at the gas station.

you check your oil weekly instead of monthly.

you get jealous when gasoline drops .45 less than diesel.
