This reminds me how much I love the W116 chassis cars.

Your SD pulls and sounds like a V8 from 60 mph - 100 mph. Incredibly impressive.

I would like to replace the 3.07:1 axle with a 2.47:1 axle and use more of the engine's torque and less of it's rpm. I am very pleased that you all have enjoyed the video!!!!

It will bury the 120 MPH speedo, although it takes a bit to build up the steam....:-)

Thanks for posting the video! I've got a 1980 300SD and I'd like to make some slight performance modifications at some point, though at stock they are plenty fast for me. I bought it with a dead turbo (engine is loud at 3,000 RPM and no turbo whistle, less power than it should), but today I noticed the car had much more power, the engine was very quiet at high RPM, and I could hear the turbo whistle. So, either the turbo unstuck itself or is working intermittently.

What he said

I miss the style of my w116 300sd. I think the 116 was one of the most elegant cars ever produced.

That IS nice.

Wish I could, except I just satisfied my (less lustful) 123 habit so now I'm broke :

I wish to add that this humble W116 is the recipient of both the 250,00km and 500,000km longevity awards.....

They look much better with Euro lamps and bumbers.......But the big bumpers are great for our terrible California drivers & parkers....
