IP Bottom Plate Oil Leak

Re: W124, 300D, 602.962

Just this weekend I noticed a slow motor oil leak from the bottom of my IP. I have isolated it to the bottom
plate, which attaches with 4 or 6 small bolts. EPC shows that there is a seal of some kind (flat or o-ring)
that probably is the problem in my case.

I haven't located a source for this part yet, which is "#A0049971340 - Seal Ring, Lower".

It is # 370 shown below.

Simplest fix would be to see if the fasteners are a little loose and try to snug them up a bit. If that does not
work I will need to remove the plate and install a new seal.

No parts are retained by the plate that I need to watch for I hope?

Are the bolts Torx head?

Has anyone encountered this problem yet and where can I get the part?

Thanks.

The bolts are torx head and really difficult to get at,unfortunatly it is a common leak on these old cars on my wagon(603 eng) i had to take the pump off to do the job.The one on my sedan(602 eng) is leaking a little and so is the one on my sons sedan. No parts will fall out but a surprising amount of oil will! The seal was hard and brittle and there is no groove to fit it into it just fits around a raised part of the cover and i think if you do manage to get the cover off without removing the pump you will have to glue the seal to the cover to get it to stay in place while you reassemble. Thanks for the info Don. Where did you get the new seal? My online sources don't seem to have it...I may have to call my local MB dealer and check with them.

If all else fails and you can't get a replacement seal would Permatex black do the job?

http://www.permatex.com/products/automotive/automotive_gasketing/gasket_makers/auto_permatex_ultra_black_maximum_oil_resistance_rtv_silicone_gasket_maker.htm

Who knows it may last forever - it may last for 5 mins???

I ordred the Bosch gasket kit from the local Bosch shop, if i remember it was around 30 bucks and pretty much a waste of money.Even if you have to take the pump off you only need the oring for the front of the pump and the one for the cover, the one for the cover is just an oring and not shaped like it shows in the picture you posted which is why you would have to glue it in place. If i remember correctly the side cover gasket was not included so i made one.If you dont have a local MB dealer Peach Parts would be your best bet i guess. That is a good thread, I agree. The 602's IP only has 4 bolts to remove. I'm pretty sure I can get to them from underneath the car and using a bunch of extensions.

Thanks to Gsxr's website W124performance.com for the picture.

Part #'s

Hunter, I also need the part #'s for the IP. Going by the drawing at the start of the thread, they would be 370,382,and 424. Also, is the delivery valve o-ring the same size as the shut off valve o-ring ? If not, I need that also. I really appreciate it. Thanks.
