Filling up at a semi-truck stop?

Hey, So around here I've always been filling up at the only gas stations around here with diesel on the "normal" pumps. But lately, one of the truck stops nearby has been having diesel for 5-10 cents cheaper then everybody else... the problem is that they don't have any diesel pumps on the side the cars fill up on. I guess it's only on the semi trucks side of the stop.

So my question is... has anybody ever used the other side of a truck stop? Are there any special things I need to worry about, or am I able to just pull right up and fill-up?

I fill up there from time to time. Nothing special about paying. The fuel does come out rapidly though.

Very rapidly. Wish gas pumps were almost as fast.

Typically the nozzles are a larger diameter but they still fit in car fuel fills.

many truck stops have pumps on both sides of the truck... be sure you only park on the side with the meter on the pump. and keep an eye on the other meter... some unscrupulous or ill informed truckers will use the other side while you pump... and you;ll get a large fuel bill...

Sometimes they will have one pump with a small nozzle, usually at the end.

One thing I've found when filling up on the "truck" side is that much of the time, the pumps don't take regular credit cards. You have to walk in or call on the intercom and let them know how you're going to pay and sometimes leave your card as collateral.

Most of the truck stop nozzles should fit our cars, but I found one nozzle that wouldn't fit. It had a lip on it that I've never seen before. Also, use caution when filling up with those large nozzles. The flow rate is FAST and you'll get sprayed quick at the automatic cutoff if you let it go to the full flow rate.

Original post is somewhat confusing, or I am a retard.

That being said....

I pull up to any public diesel pump regardless of trucks or otherwise.
When traffic flow dictates the direction you approach the pumps, either turn around or (in the case of dual pumps) start the pump with the main nozzle, lay it on the ground, then pick up the secondary and begin fueling. (For some stupid reason, the primary nozzle must be removed and activated in order to pump with the secondary.)
Since the flow is so high, just be careful while filling.

I often even go so far as to fill a few 5 gallon jugs (if the price is good) and keep them at home for emergency fills (I am low on fuel, short on time, and have somewhere to be either early in the am, or NOW, and its easier to toss a 5 in the tank).

When traveling with my truck I almost always carry an extra 5 in case I am low and everything is closed. It gives me more range, or in the case of frigid temps in an emergency, we have enough fuel to run the motor for heat.

I have use the truck pumps a few times, and as said above, it does come out fast. would have to, a trucker taking on 300 gallons, doesn`t want to be waiting all day.

Do not click on the handle for the automatic shut off to stop the flow when it gets full. you will get a bath of fuel spraying out. remember, the air has to come out the same rate the fuel is going in.

I keep a ear close to the filler, so when I hear the change in the sound, I release the handle. then just squeeze it slowly to top it off. sometimes it is only set for a full flow.

The nozzles will fit into the W123, don`t know about the w126.
Wll the truck nozzles ft the w124?

I've used them a few times. Only once was I not able to as they kept cancelling my transaction and said to go to the other diesel pump. Very annoying.

Thats all I use. G@s stations are water and dirt magnets for diesel fuel, its allowed to sit in the ground for weeks. (Good) truck stops have an almost daily turnover so you're getting fresh fuel with less chance of water contamination.

Many truck stops have at least one "small nozzle" pump in the truck line for smaller trucks (pickups/straight trucks/vans). If you use a large nozzle you need to babysit it and slow the flow as the level gets near full, otherwise you'll end up with half a gallon or more on the ground.

I usually use the truck side. I assume they pump more volume and therefore the fuel is less likely to be contaminated. 30 years ago, diesel on the car side was pretty rare.

I normally only use the diesel supply at the depot as it goes on the biz fuel account. They only have a truck nozzle there. You get used to it quickly. Its hard to fill the last gallon as it wont go that slow. I was just away traveling recently. Those standard car type nozzles are way too slow!! It took for ever to fill. Total PITA !! Get used to the truck nozzle & you will never want to go back to the slow car nozzle.
